Learning and progression -
Final
2. Introduction
To introduce my learning and progression from my
very first lesson to my current stage of learning and
application, in this PowerPoint I will make specific
obvious reference to my knowledge in various areas
such as the importance of forms and conventions,
using design – photo editing software, taking
photographs, audiences, articles and headlines.
Seven questions.
4. As you can see from the slide above I have made
fairly substantial progressions based on the taught
tips and techniques, which I had been given to learn
and implement in my music magazine design and
construction. Instead of explaining every technique I
have learnt I will instead describe my three favorite
– and how I have applied them. And also a brief list
of extra techniques learnt and used which have
proved useful within the construction of my cover
page.
Progress//Transitional
5. Cover Page- Techniques
On the topic of techniques which I learnt which proved to be
specifically useful, were mainly with focus on bringing the
cover image to a higher quality more eye catching standard.
For example the application of ‘brightness and contrast’
which can be adjusted to mainly bring out – illustrate the
contrast – difference or similarity in skin colour tones, which I
have found to also emphasise body shape and clothes worn on
the models during the photoshoot. This proves to be most
effective when the model or models are wearing tighter
clothing (choice of clothing aids in the presentation/
representation of the models being as relevant as possible
to the magazine genre – topic). This allows their figure’s to be
more easily seen positively (‘attractively or aesthetically’)
targeting the audience more efficiently within the image.
7. Progress/ Transitional
My contents page both in the planning and construction
stages reminded made me think of the importance of
reader/ audience interaction through a number of forms
and conventions, not only did I receive advise from my
teacher’s I had researched larger well known magazines
such as Q magazine similar to mine in my previous
planning stages and chose to incorporate some of what I
believed to be effective relevant forms and conventions
into my production. For instance not only have I
included regular but I have also included an editors letter
to further engage the reader – audience and allow them
to be reminded or acknowledge for the first time the
editors overall aim – mission statement.
8. Contents Page techniques
The most effective techniques I have learnt and
applied specific to my contents page include
capturing and selecting a range of pictures to
represent the ‘subheadings’, simply for Foo Fighters
if I were to include an image of a female model this
simply wouldn’t be accurate or appropriate mis
presenting and possibly mis leading the audience.
9. Double Page Article
Although I didn’t actually produce a double page article
before researching and observing other well known
magazines for ideas, a piece of useful evidence to show
progression is to state my transition from my rough plan to
my current double page article.
Situated in the slide below this one includes a screenshot
image of my initial plan, allowing visual evidence on
progression.
11. The most significant area of improvement within my
double page article is indefinitely the application of
writing an article in which both attracts and maintains
the readers attention for the ‘contents’ of the magazine
preferably.
To do so I had to adjust the wording and language used
from my plan – draft copy of my written article to ensure
that the language and standard of English used is
relevant and appropriate for the target audience’s. For
example I had to change the initially selected terms of
language which could be classed as swearing to more
politically correct terms such as ‘A fucking disgrace’ to
‘behaviour and language named by the media as a public
disgrace’.
Double page techniques
12. More Over
Also another important focal point I had to ensure was
correct in my double page article was the image taken,
this was special in the respect that I had to learn to angle
and adjust the camera’s zoom – focus to create a strong
attractive and again relevant close up image of just the
face of my model. Therefore facial expressions, head
angle, model eye’s focus (direction of focus) were all very
important. Otherwise I could’ve captured images of the
model presenting bodily expressions non relevant to my
magazine and the article.
Therefore
13. Conclusion
To conclude this PowerPoint on the topics of key
techniques and skills learnt throughout the process of
creating and evaluating my magazine cover, contents and
double page I have found the process both enjoyable and
insightful both for many reasons including the ease of a
handful of techniques which can be learnt and applied
relatively quickly to enhance – modify someone’s image
(body, facial features) to conform to societies norms.
This realization has proved shocking making the ‘media’
television, magazines, newspapers, music videos and
more to blame for presenting unhealthy views on body
image, behavior and glamourizing dangerous acts
resulting in fatalistic consequences in certain
circumstances.
14. Quick note on facial adjustments
Allocated in the Appstore of
many smart phones to date,
allowing handheld facial changes
‘improvements’.
