The document discusses the various technologies used by the author at different stages of their research project. In the research and planning stage, the author used Weebly to create a website to organize their work. They also used PowerPoint and SlideShare to present their research. For construction of artifacts like a magazine cover and billboard poster, the author used Photoshop to edit images and design the artifacts. Prezi and PowerPoint were used to present work as well. iMovie and QuickTime Player were utilized for video editing and screen recording during evaluation.
1. What technologies did you use in
the research and planning.
Construction and evaluation stages?
Question 4
2. Research and Planning
The Weebly website has
accommodated me and made it
easier for me to post all my work in
one place. It has different ways for
you to present your work such as
JPEG, images, texts, html links,
documents, YouTube and others.
It also allowed
me to add pages
onto my blog
meaning my
work would be
organised
making it easier
for me to access
but also for
people viewing
my blog.
3. Research and Planning
• For my research, I used
Powerpoint as it helped me
present my work in and organised
and easy way and it uses you to
have simple designs.
• This helping me present my work
in a concise way.
• I also used Slideshare which
meant I could upload my work
and use the HTML code to embed
on my Weebly, meaning other
people could see it.
4. • YouTube allowed me to find existing soap
trailers in order for me to analyse them then
use to them help me create my preliminary
task.
Due to it being embedded on Weebly, it accommodated people who
could watch just on the site instead of going off onto another
website.
5. As part of my planning I used Word to do a shooting script, I used Word
for all the paperwork which I then posted on Weebly.
6. Construction
A tripod – stabilizes the video, this
meaning you have your hands free
meaning you can pan from side to
side and zoom, keeping it steady
at the same time.
Boom mic – enhancing
sound overall as the
camera may not be
able to pick up some
sounds.
DSLR Camera – meaning you
can get a good quality video
which adds to the
professionalism of the trailer.
7. Ancillary products…
• For my ancillary products, I used Adobe
Photoshop to edit as well as create the
products.
• As a group we made a front cover for a
magazine and a billboard poster.
8. Magazine cover..
I used a green screen meaning I
could use one colour for my
background, sticking to the typical
conventions of a TV Magazine.
Firstly I took the images I wanted
to used and then erased the
background using the eraser tool.
9. Construction
I used the horizontal
type tool to add text to
the page.
I also used a drop
shadow effect, making it
look more professional
but also so it stood out
more subtly.
10. By using the transform tool this helps me be
able to easily rotate and move text to the
shape and size that is similar to the typical
style of soap magazines. I clicked
edittransform rotate, so I could tilt the
text to make it link with images.
I also made certain parts stand out more, for
example ‘DRUG ’I did this by making the inside
colour fill white and the border red. This still
links with the other pieces of text but adds
more attention the storyline even if the image
is small and a secondary story.
11. Construction
I used the magic eraser and
background eraser tool to
erase the white background,
replacing this with a blue
background. This made the
magazine look more
professional and made both
people stand out on the
cover.
12. Construction, before and after
First I edited some of the images that I
was going to use, I used the
background eraser and quick selection
tool to get a detailed edit of the
characters. I used this tool to make sure
all the images didn’t have any
background around them. I wanted it to
look as professional as possible. Here
are some of the images I edited before
and after.
13. Construction
I used a colour fill to add the blue
background. This made the image
stand out more and would contrast
with the yellow and red text.
I then added the circle shape to
add the days of the week at the
side of the magazine cover. I clicked
the shape tool ellipse tool which
would create the circular shape I
needed I then chose the colour
that would be best suited and
added the white border around it
to make it stand out.
14. Construction
• I clicked on the colour picker, then
went through the colours, I then
selected a colour.
• I selected blue for my background
front cover.
15. Construction
• I added secondary images
and added glow around
some images.
• This making them stand
out, which engages the
audience drawing their
attention to it more.
• I also rotated images using
this Edit > Transform >
Rotate.
16. Billboard Poster
• Firstly I edited all my images using Photoshop.
I have done this before by using the same
tools
• I used the same tools to erase the
background, I also used this for my front
cover.
17. Construction
This was our mock billboard,
before we made our final
cover.
For each character we used
different facial expressions to
reflect part of the characters
interest and persona.
I put all the images together and then used a brick wall as the
background using File > Open
18. Billboard
For the billboard poster, I used
individual images and did the same
Photoshop technique for the
background. I then put a brick wall in
the background to make the characters
stand out.
I then added a channel 4 logo to tell
the audience where the show will be
broadcast on. I created the logo by
using Times New Roman text in
Photoshop, by using the text tool and
typing “Oxford Road”, I added a white
colour fill and made the shape be a
rectangle but with rounded edges to
look more of a realistic road sign.
19. SOUND
For the theme tune of the trailer, I used Honeyblood-Bud from YouTube. I copied
the url to then paste into a site which could turn the link into a mp3 document so I
could add this over my trailer when editing. This made it easier to add the sound
over the trailer. I wanted to have a different unique trailer so decided not to use
any sound effects except for the voiceover at the end of the trailer so the audience
still is familiar with a convention of soap opera. This is always at the end of soap
trailers and I wanted to make a link for the audience.
20. PREZI
I used Prezi as it was a new
format to present my work
on. It was the most creative
way of presenting your work.
It allowed me to present it
through different paths,
enabling me to move from
one location to another e.g.
from a piece of text to
another image.
21. Prezi
It allowed me easily to add different
frames and arrows to present my work
more creatively.
Prezi has also allowed me into insert
images easily by clicking the insert box.
22. Powerpoint
• I also used Powerpoint to present my work. It
was simple and easy to use to create my
presenations.
• I then had to upload it to Slideshare, making it
easy for people to access it.
23. Evaluation
I used Weebly to
display my evaluation
work. I made a page
for each question so it
was easier to acess.
24. QuickTime Player
• We used QuickTime player
to do a short screen
recording of how I used
iMovie to create my trailer
for one of my evaluation
questions.
• This has allowed me to
easily demonstrate how I
used iMovie and what I did
in order to create my trailer.
