4. Golf is an aspirational game
Golf is one of the world's most popular sports and is played in well over 100 nations world-wide.
In 2016 it will become an Olympic sport at the Rio de Janeiro games.
Today the UK golf industry is estimated at over £500m.
This is a growing sport, with an estimated 4 million participating golfers in England with 800,000
belonging to golf clubs.
Traditionally golf has been a male dominated sport but today more and more women are playing
and being recognised in the game through role models such as Melissa Reid, Florentyna Parker and
Rebecca Hudson.
Golf is an aspirational game
Seen as an aspirational sport, affiliation is the key motivation for the majority of amateur players
because golf offers a great social scene and a business network.
Golf is a sport that can be enjoyed from the age of 5 to 85, so attracts families and all generations.
5. Introduction to the EWGA

network of volunteers. It manages the interests of its members and the game.
Organises and runs over 20 national championships and golfing events for women golfers of
all ages and abilities.

7. Women with influence and buying power
41% of all women golf participants are made up of 41-60 year olds.
Many come from a cross-section of professionals, affluent housewives, ‘empty nesters’ and
retired women.
These women are well educated and aspire to the finer things in life which is reflected in their
lifestyles, homes and shopping habits.
Women with influence and buying power
Although not from the digital generation, the majority will have home internet access and the
essential mobile phone.
They will have great influence and buying power within the family and on their husband’s interests.
