First steps
 The first satellite in space was sputnik 1.
 Satellites take pictures of the earth.
 Sputnik 1 was a small metal ball.
 It orbited the earth at 18,00 miles a per hour.
Space Race
 The first man in space was Yuri Gagarin.
 It took him two days to orbit the earth.
 The Russians put a dog in a space capsull.
 The dogs name was Laika.
 She was a stray.
 The first woman in space was Valentina Tereshkova
To the moon
 The moon orbits around the earth.
 Apollo 7 carried 3 astronauts into space.
 The crew of Apollo 10 went all the way to the moon.
 Six more Apollos made it to the moon.
 Apollo 13 did not make it to the moon.
The space shuttle
 The USA made it to the moon first.
 The space shuttle was the first space craft that could be
  used more then one time.
 It landed like a plane but took off like a rocket.
Other planets and beyond
 In 1976 the Viking landed on mars.
 The Hubble telescope has observed more than 25,000
  new stars.
 Saturn’s largest moon is titan.
 The Hubble telescope is the size of a school bus.
 It orbits the earth.
Conclusion
 We have been exploring space for almost 50 years.
 There is still a lot to learn about space.
 We have learned a lot from, satellites, unmmanned
  probes, and telescopes.
Hots Qs
 1. space travel is very dangerous and expensive. Is it worth
it? Yes and no because if you are wealthy and now what
you are doing yes. But if you are not very wealthy and are
not confident that probibly would not be a good idea.
 2. was Laika’s death a waste? Sort of But what if a man
went up there and died it could have been some body’s son.
 3. would you be a good astronaut? not really I do not have
directions and I do not have the guts.
 4.if you could explore space or the deep sea which would it
be? Both because they both sound cool to explore.
