SHORT DESCRIPTION:
Swiss – Romanian cooperation program is part of the grant provided by the Federal
Council, to 12 EU Member States that joined between 2004-2007. The Swiss support
is an expression of solidarity with the new Member States of the EU and lay the
foundations of a stable economical and political cooperation between those countries.
The Swiss contribution represents an important element in the bilateral relations
between Switzerland and Romania. The Swiss- Romanian co-operation program will
enhance the visibility of bilateral relations and will provide the necessary space for a
good use of the Swiss expertise and knowledge .Support measures in the cooperation
program aim a sustainable development, in a balanced social and economical way.
In rural areas, environmental problems have worsened in the last period, on one hand
due to poor information of the citizens regarding the national and European
environmental demands , and on the other hand, due to ineffective communication of
decisions which the local officials take and which may affect the environment in rural
communities . Problems of the communities such as protected natural areas,
managements of local waste, exploitation of natural resources (including forest cutting
and collecting the fruits of the forest), are often not understood by inhabitants in the
sense of a sustainable development.
The project “Promoters network for clean villages/ to increase the awareness of rural
communities in the north west region about the impact of their activities upon
environment” was obtained by the Defense League of human rights-LADO, Cluj
branch, being a PROJECT FINANCED THROUGH A GRANT FROM SWITZERLAND VIA
SWISS CONTRIBUTION FOR THE EUROPEAN UNION EXPANDED.

With a total value of CHF 75,000 (67,500 CHF from FT. PSC- Swiss contributions and
7,500 CHF the contribution of the two partners of the project, LADO, Cluj branch and
Environmental National Guard) the project aims more actions through which to raise
awareness of rural communities (local councils, mayors, citizens) in connection with the

2. impact of their activities upon environment .
The project objectives are:
-A better knowledge of the environmental issues in the rural communities from the
region
-A better information of citizens about the investments with environmental impact
which is done in the community.
-To inform the citizens about the institutions and organizations which activate in the
field of environmental protection
