In Recognition of Sanjeev “Sonny” Bhagowalia
WHEREAS, Sanjeev “Sonny” Bhagowalia served as Hawai’i’s first Chief Information Officer (ClO) from July
2011 to February 2014, demonstrating his vast professional experience, business/technical acumen and
dedication to public service; and
WHEREAS, Sanjeev “Sonny” Bhagowalia completed the State of Hawai’i’s first-ever comprehensive, statewide
Business and Information Technology/Information Resource Management Transformation Plan, offering a
strong strategic vision to transform government by “leapfrogging” Hawai’i into the 21st Century; and
WHEREAS, Sanjeev “Sonny” Bhagowalia received the 2014 Statescoop GoldenGov State Executive of the Year
Award and 2013 Federal 100 Award for his efforts in transforming the State of Hawai’i’s business and
technology infrastructure — being the only state recipient — and attracted widespread renown and numerous
other prestigious awards for the State of Hawai’i for substantially improving Hawai’i’s business, technology, and
transparency/accountability environment; and
WHEREAS, Sanjeev “Sonny” Bhagowalia’s exceptional leadership and positive energy have greatly contributed
to developing a collaborative, collegial and change-oriented atmosphere in which a sound, unified technology
and cyber security foundation could be implemented for the State of Hawai’i’s future and the well-being of
Hawai’i’s residents, businesses and visitors;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, NEIL ABERCROMBIE, Governor, and I, SHAN S. TSUTSUI, Lieutenant Governor
for the State of Hawai’i, do hereby proclaim May 8, 2014, as
“SANJEEV ‘SONNY’ BHAGOWALIA DAY”
in Hawai’i, and ask all citizens of the Aloha State to join us in commending and congratulating Sanjeev “Sonny”
Bhagowalia for his exemplary service, commitment to excellence, extraordinary achievements, and exceptional
efforts to transform government and improve government services for the citizens of Hawai’i.
DONE at the State Capitol, in Executive Chambers, Honolulu, State of Hawai’i, this first day of May 2014.
