Soweto’s Petrus Molefe Annual Development Bodybuilding Show
The A Team will be presenting and hosting the2nd Annual Petrus Molefe Body Building Show
judgement day
The A Team with a team of professional body builders are extremely excited about creating and
increasing the awareness of body building as a recognised sport in Soweto and other under
developed areas. The event also serves as a platform to commemorate Petrus Molefe. Molefe was a
member of Umkhonto weSizwe, the ANC’s military wing, and was the first soldier to be killed by the
apartheid regime on 16 December 1961 in Dube, Soweto. As we continue to develop our
communities, it’s encouraging to remember those who came before us and fought for freedom.

The show will take place on the 28 of September 2014 and will be hosted at the Soweto Nasrec
expowiththe official openingat13h00. The show is opentoall who wishtoparticipate.
Athlete registrationandweigh-inwillcommenceat08h00 and close at 10h00 on Saturdaymorning.

As organisers, The A Team believes it is important to host the event within the community. “It
provides us with an opportunity to contribute to building and integrating communities around

Soweto through a positive activity such as bodybuilding,” says The A Team “It is all part of the social
cohesion project. In our case we use sports or bodybuilding to bring communities together,” he
continues. The social development component of the event is as important as the healthy living
aspect, according to The A team “Our communities are plagued by social ills such as substance
abuse. It affects the youth in particular, who because of high levels of unemployment, and have few
positive alternatives to engaged in. By exposing our communities to activities such as bodybuilding,
we are in a position to encourage the youth to get involved in other activities, as well as healthy
lifestyle alternatives,”
The A-Team is still seeking sponsorship to cover the prize money and other aspects of the event.
With sponsorship, the A-Team will be able to launch the annual event successfully, as well as expose
brands to a broad audience from various corners of Soweto. It is an event with great potential for
future growthof athletes,aswell asreformingcommunitiestoexcel inhealthyliving.
“To us the event serves many positive purposes,” says “as it addresses issues of social cohesion,
building communities, getting people involved in physical activity, and raising awareness about
healthyliving.”
