she first became interested in
photography in 1923 when a
man called Man Ray asked for
somebody who didn’t know
anything about photography?
She would later write
“I took photography like a
duck to water”.

• in 1926 she had her first solo exhibition
• and started her own studio Rue du Bec
• worked in New York for six years
• in 1935 she was hired by a federal art
project
• in 1939 she produced 305 photographs
