1. DRUPAL In 2016
A Year in Review
Original Source: https://www.cloudways.com/blog/drupal-review-2016/
2. 2016 is over and 2017 is
another fresh year for the
Drupal community. It is
time to reflect back on what
Drupal gained in the past
year and how far the CMS
and the community fared in
terms of market penetration
and popularity.
3. We are happy to say that 2016 has
been very fruitful for Drupal and its
community. The CMS matured into a
major market player and now powers
almost 2.2% of the total websites on
the internet. This is a strong
indication that Drupal is rapidly
becoming an important member of the
Big Three.
5. Drupal 8 Turns One
Perhaps, the most important news of 2016 is that Drupal 8
became a year old on November 19, 2016! To celebrate this
occasion, Dries Buytaert, the founder of Drupal shared some
notable Drupal 8 websites on his official blog.
6. Support for Drupal 6 Ends
In 2016, the support for Drupal 6 ended officially. If you have a
Drupal 6 website, it is high time you move it to Drupal 7 or
Drupal 8 as soon as possible to avoid any problems.
7. Composer Comes to
Drupal
Composer, the well-known dependency management tool is
now available for Drupal. This is great news for Drupal
developers as Composer completely streamlines the process of
using external libraries and packages in a project without
worrying about missing dependencies and updates. To learn
more about Composer on Drupal 8, read the official blog post.
8. Drupal 8 No Longer Includes Dev
Dependencies in Release Package
Starting with Drupal 8, stable releases will not include
developer libraries because the code in these libraries in either
unstable or insecure. Drupal also does not recommend
deployment of untested code on live websites. Always deploy
dev code and libraries on production websites to test and
evaluate.
10. DrupalCon
Like previous years, two DrupalCons were held in
2016.
This year, New Orleans (May 9-13, 2016) and
Dublin (September 26-30, 2016) played host to
DrupalCon with great success. In other Drupalcon
related events, Drupalcon Asia finally happened in
Mumbai, India. Asia has the second largest Drupal
user base after the United States, and the Mumbai
event was attended by over 1,000 attendees (82%
of them being first-time attendees).
12. NasdaqNasdaq Corporate Solutions serve 3,000 of the world’s largest
businesses. For their newest investor relations website, Nasdaq
Solutions opted for Drupal as the core CMS.
13. City of Boston Official Website
The City of Boston chose to power their official website with Drupal.
14. Lamborghini
A company that makes fast cars do need a fast CMS for its websites. Dries Buytaert
announced on his blog that Lamborghini, one of the top Italian supercar manufacturer
launched their latest website using Drupal 8.
15. Tag Heuer
Tag Heuer, a highly respected watch manufacturer chose to integrate Drupal 8 with their
Magento store. A premium watchmaker needs a premium website, and Drupal fulfills this
condition very nicely!
