- Water is life. Life is fascinating. I very enjoy my pracitice working exclusively for people like you. And the people who see you. It is an honor to work with people who provide and protect a most precsious. And you do it so well, that our fellow citizens have come to to take it almost completely for granted. Thank you for doing the important work that you do.
- I blog about citizenship. About what it takes to help citizens move from conservation lip service to conservation action. I am interested in the words and pictures that catch their attention and speak to them. I’m interested in all of the ways that an unsuspecting citizen might encounter our messages -- in the news, on the web, in print, in person, and by word of mouth. That’s what I blog about. And that’s what I’m here to talk about.

- In survey after survey, study after study, everyday citizens place water at the very top of their list of environmental priorities, adn place pretty high relative to other social issues -- but that doesn’t mean
- As a rule, name recognition for conservation organizations and government agencies is low. True for other agencies as well.
- I am really quite sure that this is true. I’ll bet you all that whenever you have a hearing, you have a handful of supporters, a large number of detractors, and nobody in the middle. People are the most vocal when they are pissed off about something, and some people go through life pissed off at everything.
- Now, let’s pause for a moment here because these two slides show how important good communications are, but also show the limitations of what you can do with good communications.
- Well, there’s just no easy way to say it - it’s our own damn fault.
- When it comes to turning that first impression into a first step and then to a big step, we’re like that rookie angler who feels the nibble and yanks. Where the skillful angler sets the hook and plays the fish.
