2. Citizenship Citizenship carries with it both rights and responsibilities – It’s about recognising the rights and responsibilities you have, socially and morally, as members of society. Citizenship is about your connection to society and the part you play in it. Adding value whether that be within college,your community, nationally or globally Citizenship is about developing your capacity for thoughtful and responsible participation in political, economic, social and cultural life. Participating in citizenship activities will also develop your primary core skills and your skills for employability.

3. During your course you will have the opportunity to research, develop and participate in activities related to citizenship and the role of the Artist within society. This will be achieved through: Practical course work Group + individual tutorial sessions Group crits and evaluations Contextual studies and art history Student association activities Class representation

4. How else can you contribute?… Where appropriate you will also be encouraged to actively seek opportunities to build upon your citizenship skills, and to log your progress in your student planner throughout your course. This could be achieved through: Volunteering Campaigning Fundraising Planning an event Group and individual tutorial sessions

5. Your contribution… In the past students have been involved in a wide variety of activities that relate to Citizenship such as: Charity fundraising auction of student Art + Design work Collaborative projects with people with learning disabilities, health and equality issues Participate in public art projects to support the local community Take part in regular discussion sessions, art projects, visits to Art Galleries, Museums and Sculpture parks which will enable you to gain an understanding of world issues, for example conflict, poverty, discrimination, global warming and related issues such as recycling

6. 2011 is the European Year of Volunteering Volunteering is a valuable way to develop citizenship skills and contribute to the local community.You can use the skills and experience you have gained to progress onto higher level courses or into employment.
