Regional Champion <ul><li>COSMIC’s unique experience & understanding of the third sector has led to the recent appointment of Regional ICT Champion for the South West </li></ul><ul><li>Aim: To raise the awareness / efficiency and delivery of ICT Services in the region </li></ul><ul><li>Focus: South West Voluntary Community Sector </li></ul><ul><li>Funder: ICT Hub and Capacity Builders </li></ul><ul><li>One RC in each of the nine English Regions providing a strong network of support for the third sector </li></ul>

Regional Champion <ul><li>Establish & Work with regional & local networks to deliver ICT awareness initiatives to the VCS </li></ul><ul><li>Identify existing service providers and facilitate best practice and therefore promote sustainability. </li></ul><ul><li>Through collaboration with local support organisations, help front-line organisations understand and be signposted to practical ICT resources </li></ul>What does a Regional Champion do?

Not just disabilities but also failing abilities </li></ul><ul><li>Standard Computer set up doesn’t suit everyone </li></ul><ul><li>But computers provide access to opportunities </li></ul><ul><li>Employment </li></ul><ul><li>Education </li></ul><ul><li>Leisure </li></ul><ul><li>Communication </li></ul><ul><li>Independence </li></ul>

Accessibility – The Law <ul><li>Organisations have obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) </li></ul><ul><li>- All employers and everyone who provides a service to the public, except the Armed Forces. </li></ul><ul><li>Website Accessibility </li></ul><ul><li>Affects every organisation / Not just specific to certain audiences </li></ul><ul><li>Search engines </li></ul><ul><li>Doesn’t exclude old / aging technologies ie dial up / windows 98, etc </li></ul><ul><li>Includes multiple devices ie PDAs, mobile phones, etc </li></ul><ul><li>Strengthens brand – Caring Organisation </li></ul>
