2. I will be using a friends band
as models as they base their Models
music on ‘Indie-Rock’ and
therefore will be suitable for
the type of genre that my
magazine is going to be. This
band is from York and play
their music mostly in the city
centre of York. The models
that I wanted for my magazine
were those that represented
‘Indie-Rock’ as a genre but
also as a fashion statement.
The band ‘King No-one’ are
suitable for this role as they
dress like the stereotypical
‘Indie’ person and also play
that genre of music. The
images to the right show the
types of clothing and attitude
that these band members will
have in relation to famous/ Things noticed from these
successful band members. As magazine’s main shot: The
the stereotypical ‘Indie-rock’ models are not smiling,
mood is known to be quite they have a straight face
moody, straight-faced but and do not show any

that when taking my shots I as it is parallel to the

this genre is known for having
it will not attract as broader
audience I would like.
3. Costumes
When taking these shots, I
want my models to have a
comfortable outfit on that
represents who they are. I
think that if I was to do a shoot
in the studio with outfits that I
had chosen, it would not
reflect their true attitude and
the genre that they fit in to.
Many ‘Indie-Rock’ musicians
wear black, including black
skinny jeans and a shirt or t-
shirt. If they are not wearing
black, then they go for bland,
plain colours and nothing
really dramatic and ‘out there’.
It is as if they do not want to
be seen and stand out as
much as other people. If they
do wear things with patterns
on them, it tends to be very Things to notice from the pictures above: The images above show idols that
hard to see and is instead very have been on the front cover of magazines like NME and Q! As I said in my

models wearing their natural and very plain, neutral clothes. As it is easy from the images above, the
clothing, with their own musicians are not fussy with their fashion/clothing and instead wear what they

best shots as they will feel like
themselves and therefore feel
comfortable.
4. Props
The props that will be used by models will be those that are
generally used by the ‘Indie-Rock’ musicians. These include:
-Bass Guitar
-Acoustic Guitar
-Microphone
-Microphone Stand
-Drums
For my photo shoot I will be going to a gig where King No-
one are playing which is in the City Centre of York at a bar
called the Keystones. At this gig, they will be using these
instruments and therefore will be used as props in the shots
that I am going to take. All of these instruments are very
important to the band and their genre. Without these it
would be hard to portray their message and their type of
genre.
6. Location
At: The Keystones Pub
As the shots are going to be taken at a Gig, there is many different angles
that the shots can be taken. By taking a high angle shot, it makes the band
on stage look in power as they look a lot bigger than the rest of the people
and therefore appear stronger and more confident. Similarly, if the shot is
taken from long distance then the artificial lights (stage lights) will be on
the band members making them the main focus. As they will be in main
focus, it also makes them look like the most important people in the shot,
which they will be. If the artificial light was not focusing on the band
members and instead at the crowd, it would not have the same effect as the
crowd would be the main focus and would seem as if they were holding
power over the band and when putting the shot in to a magazine it is
extremely important that the band looks as if it holds power so that the
reader of the magazine thinks that the band is confident and therefore will
want to be a fan.

Composition of Photographs
Generally, the composition of my photographs can be successful in many
different ways as I am doing my shoot at a gig. I will be using a range of
different camera angles at my photo shoot which are listed below:
•Low angle shot – A low angle shot is taken from a lower position with the
camera facing upwards, this is a good day of making the subject matter
seem as if it holds a lot of power and confidence
•High angle shot – A high angle shot is taken from a higher position looking
down on the subject matter, this has the complete opposite effect that the
low angle shot has. This works really well in making the subject look as if
they lack power.
•Mid shot – A mid-shot is shooting something/somebody from the waist
above
•Long shot – A long shot gets more than just the subject matter in the shot
but focuses on the subject matter
•Close up – A close up shot includes just the head and the shoulders
mostly
8. Composition of Photographs
When shooting close up shots I will make sure that my subject matter is in
the centre of the shot so that it is obvious that they are the main focus of
the shot.

Composition of Photographs
When shooting high or low angle shots I want my subject matter to be in
the corner of the shot, closest to the camera so that they still stand out as
the main focus but also the effect that the low angle/high angle shot will be
highlighted.
