Barriers to healthcare administration are any factors that restrict the use of health care services by making them more difficult for some people to access, benefit or use. These barriers include a complex array of social, political and health-system related issues, rules and requirements. Being aware of these barriers and their effects on patient safety and clinical quality will help professionals to be more cautious and sensitive to the various challenges experienced by their patients. Lack of healthcare insurance is one of the biggest threats to patient safety and clinical quality services. Several ethnic, racial and other minority socioeconomic groups lack the adequate health insurance in comparison with the majority population. These groups of people are more likely to delay seeking healthcare services due to lack of insurance cover.
Lack of adequate insurance cover for the general population affects various stakeholders in the healthcare industry, in addition to the patients. It is the responsibility of the government to ensure its citizens have access to quality, comprehensive and efficient health care services. By doing so, the governments are playing a key role in achieving health equity and increasing the quality of life for everyone. Government and private insurance agencies should ensure access to health services is guaranteed to the public. Lack of adequate insurance coverage among the minority groups makes it difficult for them to get appropriate health care due to financial constraints and large medical bills.
