Warm –up Game 2: Red-Back spiders in the Dunny StageStage 1Explanation Choose 2 people to be ‘it’ (Red-Back spiders), while the rest of the class run aroundRed-back spiders try to tip, once tipped the person must freeze, kneel on one knee, arm up for the flush and other knee (foot on floor) flat for the toilet seat.To be released, someone has to go to the Dunny on you (by sitting on the knee) and flush your arm. No one can tag you whilst you're on the Dunny. Why is this game important for this stageThis game encourages spatial awareness and engages all childrenThrough the chasing and competitiveness, the children draw on past experiences to solve the problems of freeing their classmates, and avoid being tagged by the spiders.This game teaches fair play and the ability to listen to instructions and perform simple tasksWhat are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How? DMS 1.2 Decision making – the children must decide if they are going to risk getting caught in order to save someone from the dunny. Selecting a safe passage across the minefield of frozen DunniesINS 1.3 Interacting – the children are interacting with each other, strategising and adopting strategies to avoid being caught by the Red-Back spiders. Warm –up Game 3:Poison BallStageStage 2Explanation Using cones marks out an area 10m x 10m.The students run around in the middle of the designated area, if they get hit by the ball below the shoulder they are out.Those who are out, stand along the boundaries and collect the deviating balls and try to eliminate other students.Last person to be hit wins the gameWhy is this game important for this stageChildren demonstrate a range of skills in practices and modified games eg throwing catching, dodgingTeaches children consideration for others, coordination on various levels, the ability to make decisions as an individual based on the situation they face.Helps children to analyse problem situations and identify ways to improve the situation in order to stay in the game. MOS 2.4 Moving – Students develop the ability to move, dodge, weave, jump, and scoot; from a variety of stimuli including the avoidance of the ball/ object.
