GMAT Prep Tips from Top
Scorers
Introduction

CrackVerbal presents the top 19 GMAT Prep tips from our
GMAT top scorers. Our students have made it to top B-schools
like Harvard, Kellogg, Wharton, MIT Sloan, ISB and many
more, and are delighted to share their strategies with you to
help you achieve the same.
1. Rules, Tactics & Strategies are Key

You don’t need to study the definitions of a
Gerund, an Infinitive etc., You don’t need to go
into that depth to do well in the GMAT. What you
need is a simple set of rules, strategies & tactics
to beat the test. You don’t have to become an
English pundit to do better in Verbal
Read the complete debrief here : Advyth GMAT
730
2. Reading Class Material is Sufficient

For sentence correction it’s sufficient to just listen
to what is said in the CrackVerbal class.
Read the complete debrief here: Aparna GMAT 720
3. Don’t Procrastinate

The score on the actual exam was higher
than anything I got on my practice tests, so
don’t keep pushing your exam date, just
make sure you go in with a clear mind.

Read the complete debrief here: Vikas
GMAT 760
4. Understand the GMAT Test for Better Scores

The first thing a test taker needs to do is understand
the test, the challenges that lie ahead of him/her and
then figure out a plan according to his/her strengths.
The best way to do this is to take a GMATPrep test
and if you think you are not ready to sit for extended
periods of time with high concentration levels, you
can take the paper diagnostic test in the OGs.
Read the complete debrief here: Varun GMAT 730
5. GMAT is a Marathon that Tests Your Stamina

One of the things GMAT tests you
on is stamina, don't under-estimate
this fact. If you are preparing yourself
for a marathon, don't train yourself
with 100m sprints.
Read the complete debrief here:
Ritwik GMAT 750
6. GMAT is a Marathon that Tests Your Stamina

If you are 90% sure about an answer choice,
go ahead and make that choice. If you are 100%
sure, you have perhaps spent too time on that
question. This strategy helped me spend my time
wisely and prevented me from getting nervous
because of lack of time.
Read the complete debrief here: Ritwik GMAT
750
7. Approach Study Material in a Focused Manner

Concentrate on certain study material rather
than randomly picking and trying all the books
available!
Read the complete debrief here: Sherin GMAT
710
8. Keep Your Eyes on the 700+ Goal

Preparing for the GMAT has been a long & arduous
journey. However, that moment when you anxiously
stare at the screen, which unassumingly displays your
score, and see a 750+, is worth all the sweat, stress
and sacrifices.
If you find that you are unable to keep up with your
plan, relax! Take a day or two off. Set realistic targets
now and plan again
Read the complete debrief here: Kaushal GMAT 760
9. Realistic Targets

If you find that you are unable to keep up with your
plan, relax! Take a day or two off. Set realistic targets
now and plan again
Read the complete debrief here: Kaushal GMAT 760
10. It’s all in the Details

Do pay attention to the small/trivial
things discussed in the classes, they might
come in handy during the GMAT.
CrackVerbal has vast experience, try to
make use of it by asking whatever comes
to your mind about the GMAT
Read the complete debrief here: Vagisha
GMAT 720
11. Don’t Let Frustration Get the Better of You

There will be days when you are too tired or
frustrated at the lack of progress - you’re will not the
only one.
GMAT is a difficult test, it will try and beat you down,
but you have to get back on your feet. There are folks
who score 760-770 with a one-month study. I knew I
was not one of them. I knew I had to grind it out and
do it the hard way. Every day, slowly but steadily I
would chip away.

Read the complete debrief here: Subhankar GMAT 710
12. Practice Practice & More Practice

Practice hard and regularly, don’t lose focus.
Stick to the Official questions and the Advanced
questions compiled by CrackVerbal and you can solve
other questions later if it’s still required

Read the complete debrief here: Salin Kumar GMAT 710
13. Don’t be too Hard on Yourself

Do not beat yourself up if you exceed time,
eventually you will learn to manage your time
properly.
Read the complete debrief here: Sharan Varahan
GMAT 710
14. Heed Good Advice

Follow everything Arun says and that’s it.
Read the complete debrief here: Srinivas
GMAT 710
15. Pre-Prep Advice

Get the basics right - Make detailed notes in class.

Internalize the problem - Ask questions until you feel
satisfied, use the CV Forum, write an e-mail if you still need
help.
Identify your strengths and weaknesses.
Practice daily and set a tentative target date in mind
before developing a prep-plan.

Don’t forget the AWA and IR - both of them deserve only 1
hour of practice during your entire prep. :)
Read the complete debrief here: Varun GMAT 740
16. Classes are Worth the Effort

Did coming 600+kms just for CrackVerbal
classes pay up – Hell Yeah! Yeah for guys like
me CV now has online classes. You can avoid
the travel part of it. 

Read the complete debrief here: Chaitanya
GMAT 720
17. Have Confidence in Yourself

Often we feel that we score less because we
lack concepts, the reality is that we lack
confidence! Please do have confidence in
yourselves because CrackVerbal takes care of all
the other things you need to beat the GMAT and
achieve a 700+ score.
 If they can make me achieve this score, then
they can make any other person on the Earth
achieve a 700
Read the complete debrief here: Anuj GMAT 710
18. Be Practical

Don't be over ambitious, I knew I wanted
something around 700 to 720 because that's what
most of the top B-schools I was aiming at look for.
Instead of covering a lot, cover only the portions
where we can score more.
This advice is not to make anybody feel doubtful on
their capability but we do have jobs which demand a
lot of our time.

Most importantly , do give yourself a second
chance.
Read the complete debrief here: Arushi GMAT 720
19. Negate Self-Doubt

Take a minute or two to relax and get all those
‘what if I had done that’ & ‘could I have taken more
time’ thoughts out of your mind, before hitting
confirm and getting into the break to have a bite of
that yummy candy.
