Code Of Conduct
The purpose of our visit to New York is to see great
Art and Media practice- and also a fantastic city for
first hand recording images and ideas that will be
useful for the Externally Set Assignments and
Course work for your the A level, GCSE & Access
courses. It is also of course to be together socially
and have a good time!
In order to do that it is important to set out some
very straightforward ground rules, and for you to
accept that these form the basis of your
participation in the trip:
• Carry a copy of the itinerary and listen to all instructions concerning
visits; it is your responsibility to know where you are supposed to
be and at what time.
• Carry a (charged) mobile phone that is US-ready and not in ‘flight
mode’, at all times so that you can be contacted, and have the
group leaders’ numbers installed on the phone.
• Do not wander off on your own. Always be in a group of three-
minimum- it is not permitted to meet people that you have made
friends with online. Do not leave the vicinity of the gallery/visit
unless this is a specifically agreed part of the visit. Take care
crossing the road and be aware that traffic will approach from a
different side in New York- at high speed and often 4-a-breast – this
includes courier cyclists who can be unpredictable and potentially
dangerous.
• Abide by the rules of the Hotel Pennsylvania:
• The Hotel Pennsylvania is a completely non-smoking building, so
there is to be no smoking in bedrooms, the social areas or the
cafeteria.
• No alcohol is to be brought into the centre. Any use of
illegal drugs will result in your expulsion from City College.
• After ‘lights out’ (probably 12.00pm) do not move about in
the corridors. Respect the right of other users of the hotel
to sleep undisturbed.
• Show respect to each other, the staff and other users of the
Hotel Pennsylvania.
• Whilst on residential visits you are acting as ambassadors
for the college and should behave with this in mind. Any
actions that could damage the reputation of the college
and the good relationships that we have with travel
companies- thus jeopardising future trips- could result in
serious disciplinary action or your immediate removal from
all CCN courses.
ESTA
 There are strict entry rules into USA and you are instructed
to declare any potential issues that could lead to denial of
entry, including arrests, convictions, pending convictions, any
communicable diseases, previous refusal into USA,
overstayed on any previous visit and whether individuals
have ever been deported. (declaration of any of the above
does not automatically mean entry will be refused, but
further assessment will need to be made and discussed with
the US embassy)
If entry is refused due to undeclared issues, the College will look to the
re-imbursement of any measures taken to ensure student is repatriated safely

Kit List:
•A journal/ notebook / sketchbook and writing/drawing equipment.
Don’t forget; the purpose of the visit is to research ideas for your
current and future projects.
•Passport and ESTA.
• Dollars – you will need money for lunches, snacks and to buy
postcards etc. Be aware that the rate of exchange is constantly
fluctuating and that New York is never cheap. (It is of course entirely
your choice how much spending money to bring).
•Warm clothes (including a coat) and waterproof shoes. New York in
mid-February is likely to be cold and there will be lots of walking
outside. If you wear the equivalent of slippers you will have cold feet!
•Mobile phone (NY ready, with a charger) and Camera. Try not to
have too much paraphernalia with your camera and bear in mind that
you will need to keep it secure. New York is no better or worse than
other capital cities for the risk of pickpocketing – especially at tourist
destinations such as the Time Square.
Kit List
•One ‘day bag’ to put essential items, sketchbooks and
things you will need walking about galleries, studios etc.
and one larger bag/case for clothes/ toiletries etc. Your
day bag should not have any liquids or sharps in as this
will not be allowed onto the aeroplane.
•Alarm clock set on New York time- make sure this is one
that you know how to operate (you do not want it to
either go off in the middle of the night and wake your
entire room up!). Try not to rely on your mobile phone-
the battery will run out.
•Toiletries (do not pack toiletries in your hand luggage).
•US- UK mains adaptor (for your hair straighteners and
portable Teasmaid).
Rooming
• 3 to a room.
• Anyone who is not in a 3 is likely to be split up
so that we are all in rooms of 3.
• Single sex rooms.
Luggage Reminder
• Hand Luggage: 1 item <23 x 35 x 56cm or
114cm combined
• Checked Luggage: 1 item <23kg and no
bigger than 157cm combined
• Personal item: shoulder bag or laptop <22
x 25 x 43cm
Do not go over the allowed weight- this will cause delays for
the whole group!
• Any further information will go on the blog:
citycollegeartdepartmenttrips.blogspot.co.uk
Or contact c3osborne@ccn.ac.uk
with questions.

New York is no better or worse than other capital cities for the risk of pickpocketing – especially at tourist destinations such as the Time Square.
  • 19. Kit List •One ‘day bag’ to put essential items, sketchbooks and things you will need walking about galleries, studios etc. and one larger bag/case for clothes/ toiletries etc. Your day bag should not have any liquids or sharps in as this will not be allowed onto the aeroplane. •Alarm clock set on New York time- make sure this is one that you know how to operate (you do not want it to either go off in the middle of the night and wake your entire room up!). Try not to rely on your mobile phone- the battery will run out. •Toiletries (do not pack toiletries in your hand luggage). •US- UK mains adaptor (for your hair straighteners and portable Teasmaid).
  • 20. Rooming • 3 to a room. • Anyone who is not in a 3 is likely to be split up so that we are all in rooms of 3. • Single sex rooms.
  • 21. Luggage Reminder • Hand Luggage: 1 item <23 x 35 x 56cm or 114cm combined • Checked Luggage: 1 item <23kg and no bigger than 157cm combined • Personal item: shoulder bag or laptop <22 x 25 x 43cm Do not go over the allowed weight- this will cause delays for the whole group!
