Learning Devcamp 2015: In this session, you will learn how to effectively use Adobe Captivate master slides to easily create and maintain well-formatted and consistent-looking content that meets corporate guidelines. Object style is a set of visual attributes, such as color and font. You will also learn how to define styles and apply them to selected objects for quick and consistent formatting across a project. I’ll also provide lessons learned and real-world project examples.

2. You’re in the middle of developing a
Captivate project and you think to
yourself
“Boy, it sure would be nice to have my
company logo appear on all of the
slides.
And maybe a footer at the bottom of
each slide that displays the course
title.”

3. Helps create a consistent look quickly.
Great for including common objects such as
images and background colors.
Can have regular objects and placeholder
objects.
Masters are applied to individual slides in
the properties panel.

4.  The main master slide is the first slide in the Master Slide panel.
 The name of this slide is the same as the name of the theme.
 Objects and background color of this master slide appear on all other
master slides.
 Each theme has one main master slide.

5.  Contains layouts and objects
that you can use for content
slides.
 For example, a Title master
slide can be used for the title of
the project.
 You can have multiple content
masters for a project.

7. Each theme contains a separate master
slide for the following question types:
 Matching
 Hot spot
 Likert
 Other question types: multiple choice, fill-in-
the-blank, true-false question, short answer,
and sequence questions
 Result slide
Each question master slide contains
placeholder questions, answers, and
captions with the style related to the
theme.

18. A Theme file has the file extension
.CPTM.
It is a convenient way to quickly load
items such as
master slides
player bar styles
captions styles
button styles and a few other items to your
project.
Note: when you apply a
theme, all overrides to object
styles and properties will be
lost.

responsive themes to render
differentiated content for multiple
devices.
You can customize these themes to
meet your requirements, or create your
own themes.
You can also save these themes for
reuse across projects.

simulations should be the same.

27. Templates help you achieve a uniform
look-and-feel for all your projects.
They also help you and your co-authors
save time during authoring by letting
you focus on content rather than the
aesthetics of the project.

contain specific objects in specific locations.
 Use a “cptl” extension
 Using templates in Adobe Captivate, you can create
standard:
 Sizes for projects. The size specified for a template is taken
as the default size for all projects that are based on the
template.
 Sizes for objects such as images and videos within the
project.
 The templates can contain the actual object itself or a
placeholder for the object. If there are placeholders, the
content developers insert the actual object at the time of
authoring. The objects are resized to the size of the
placeholders.
 Set of preferences for projects, recording, and quizzes.
 Skins—TOCs and playback controls—for project outputs.

29.  With Templates files you can build out
the initial structure of a course and
use this as the base of your new
projects, where a theme file basically
provides you only with Master Slides,
Player Bar styles, etc.
