6. How does a Website differ
from a Blog?
• Traditional Websites:
– A set of ‘static’ pages
• Content does not change
often (or at all)
– Tends to be more sales
oriented
– Typically does not offer a
way to interact with its
visitors
– Often needs a web
designer to make even
minor changes or additions
• Traditional Blog:
– Fresh Content, changes often
• Newest posts appear highest
on the page
– Tends to share insights and
ideas
– Typically offers a space to
post comments and continue
the conversation
– Offers ability to add content
quickly

into one full featured solution?
Each offers valuable information and
compliments the other

• Created as a Blog Software, in 2003
• Open Source (free) application
– Lots of developers came together and
volunteered their experience
– Lots of folks continue to create additional tools
and add-ons (i.e. themes and plugins)
– Anyone can use this software free of charge

Before you unleash your brilliance on the world, you’ll need to set aside a few minutes to sign up for a blog, adjust your settings, and acquaint yourself with WordPress.com publishing.
You’ll use this to log into your blog. Your username can’t be changed, so it’s a good idea to choose one that you’ll be happy with in the weeks, months or years to come.
Now it’s time to think up a password. Try to make it a little more difficult to guess than “password” or your cat’s name – and remember to write it down and keep track of it!
(you’ll be able to add others later). This is the unique address that people will visit to check out your blog.
(You can change this later in your Settings menu — we’ll show you that in a bit.)
(You can also change this later in your Settings.)
If you can’t find the email in your inbox, check your spam or trash folders.
After you click “sign up” – minimize this window, and open a “new browser window” – go to your email and check for the confirmation. If/When you see it – click on the link in the email as shown.
12.) If you made a mistake with your email address, you can update it from the same page you used to create your profile.
