2. Ferdinand I (Ferdinand Viktor Albert Meinrad; 24 August 1865 – 20 July 1927),
nicknamed Întregitorul ("the Unifier"), was King of Romania from 10 October 1914 until
his death in 1927
Ferdinand spent his childhood and adolescence at the family residence in
Sigmaringen, Germany. In 1885 he graduated from the Kassel School of Officers, being

3. During the period when Romania remained neutral, the main mission of the army
consisted in securing the country's borders, while organizing and conducting the

Bucharest at the head of the army, passing the Arc de Triomphe, welcoming the
enthusiastic population. The Romanian Army arrived in Budapest, entering the
Hungarian capital on August 4, 1919, and liberating Hungary from the Communist
regime of Béla Kun. The latter ran through Vienna in the USSR.

years, in all his public attitudes. It was like Carol 1 a great king. The Romanians united with
Bessarabia, Moldova, Transylvania and Bucovina under the scepter of King Ferdinand. For the
sense of duty, he was called "Ferdinand the Loyal and" Ferdinand the Encloser ". His death has
mourned a country. The world was weeping. He died on a summer night on July 20th at Sinaia in
the Pelişor castle he had chosen as a residence
