Cynthia M. Parkhill: Recommendation by Karen Angiolet
1. ‘Enthusiastic, helpful and dedicated’
“I have enjoyed working with Cynthia Parkhill as she completes her capstone coursework for
Cuesta College. She has been enthusiastic, helpful, and dedicated.
“I am the district elementary media specialist and I oversee and work with paraprofessional
staff at 14 elementary schools. I also work closely with curriculum and am based at the
Instructional Media Center (IMC) for Medford Schools where we house and distribute textbooks
and other curriculum materials to the elementary schools
“Cynthia and I sat down and developed an outline of tasks and skills on which she’d like to
work and from there we developed a strategy. I have deployed her at many of the elementary
schools where she worked with the media technicians on library practices such as weeding,
shifting and relabeling shelves, circulation, book fairs, physical book processing, and more. All
comments from the elementary school staff was positive and I was told she was a good steady
worker, got things done, and did not require redirection and would look for more to do if she
finished. Cynthia was very willing to go to a variety of different schools and work with the staff.
She never seemed uncomfortable with a flexible schedule. I also had her work with staff at the
IMC where she assisted with inventory, shifted materials, physical processing, and dealing with
the professional library. She worked closely with me and catalogued our budding young ebook
collection including adding a 500 notes field for books with ‘text to speech’ capabilities.
“Cynthia is proficient in Destiny (our OPAC) and willing to step in and learn. She has an
interest in library best practices and seems to enjoy the everyday practical side of managing a
library. She has taken new skills and knowledge back to her school library and applied them
whenever practical and possible. She has also been a great help to me and the school
paraprofessionals.”
