Enjoy our exciting newsletter, which will tell you about the adventures of Daktari. The birth of two beautiful bushbabies, the arrival of two crocodiles and three dassies, the children and volunteers at Daktari, the great donors, the storm of hail that hit us, our stand at the Sustainable Living Festival in Hoedspruit, our animals waiting for your adoption and all about the many ways you can donate to Daktari.
2. Everyone suspected that Mummy was
pregnant again, but were not sure. Then when
she started nesting, they thought that Michele
was going to miss the birth as she was in
France, but no, Mummy held on for Michele’s
return and finally gave birth to us, Pepito &
Pepita, as soon as she walked through the
door!
Don’t you think we made an excellent
welcome home present?!
Mirror Mirror on the
wall, who’s the cutest
little Bushbaby of
them all…?
3. Snap snap! My name is Tugela, and
this is my brother Molopo. We are
new residents at Daktari and were
named after rivers of South Africa.
We really love it here, we get
yummy food twice a week and our
own cool enclosure which has been
build for us on Ian’s lawn.
We now need to find a wonderful
person to sponsor us for R250 each
per month. Can you help?
4. Hi there!!!
We arrived at Daktari in October and have settled in quite
nicely. We were a bit nervous at first but now we love our
new home!
Some of the volunteers think that we look evil, but we really
are very nice, if perhaps a bit shy :o)
My brother, sister and I don’t have names yet, you can
suggest names for us on the Daktari Facebook page!!
We also need to find a sponsor, for just R150 per month each, could that be you??

Dutch friends Anja & Gerrit who raised €350, Liz & Sita whose friends and family raised €1660 and company (Vesting Finance Holland)
gave €250 and Dominique , a former volunteer, who raised €750 by asking her friends and family to donate money to Daktari instead of
buying her a birthday present!
Thank you also to the Ebken Family from the US who donated an extra $ 500 after their volunteer experience at Datkari.
9. Wild-live Netherlands gave us a donation of
R16,117!! Thank You!!
The Deutsche Bank Africa foundation made a donation
of R120,000 to fund 10 groups of 8 children.
They have been sponsoring us for the last 3 years and
we greatly appreciate their continued support.
The staff at Uniross in Johannesburg, having moved to a
smaller office, kindly donated ALL the furniture and
computers that didn’t fit in the new place! Thank you also to
ULOAD for donating a lorry and driver to bring the things to
Daktari!!

10. Monday 3rd October started out as a beautiful hot sunny day, then at
lunchtime the sky became dark and the rain fell. Around 4pm the rain
stopped and the sky brightened and we all went out and carried on with our
chores….. Then THIS came out of the sky! Hail stones the size of golf balls!
Everyone ran for cover and Michele had to run out into it to drag poor
Eeyore under shelter!
Everyone (animals, children, staff & volunteers) was shocked and VERY VERY
wet but unharmed, and armed with a tale to tell all their friends!
Eeeesh! I hope we don’t see that again!
Oh bother…
11. We took part in Pick n Pay’s Sustainable Living Festival in Hoedspruit
where we raised awareness of, and some money for DAKTARI.
We held a raffle where the first prize was a night for two people at
Makalali Private Game Lodge, including all meals and 2 game drives!!
We had a great weekend and luckily the weather stayed nice until
Monday when we were back home!
A big big thank you to Cuan at Makalali for donating the prize to us, we,
and Mr Van Der Westhuizen who won the prize, are VERY grateful!
