Under Armour Vs Nike
Acting as two of the largest companies in the athletic apparel business by market share, both Nike
and Under Amour, like the wearers of their products, know how to win. Whether it is the Air Mag,
Nikes newest product invention or Under Armours 10 year partnership with Major League Baseball
commencing in 2020, each company is taking a different approach to grow their business and
become the "it" player in its industry. Although long term strategies devised by Nike CEO Mark
Parker and Under Armours Kevin Plank may focus on different growth initiatives, when looked at
more closely, one will find the many similarities between both firms. The grounds of comparison
and contrast I will be using fall into the categories of product development, brand ... Show more

Unless you are one of the few companies that are free of this such as Hermes or Chanel, promotion
is inevitable. This particular aspect of the strategies of both companies is where they lie most
similar. Both Under Armour and Nike both own factory outlet stores where they ship off old
inventory at a discounted price as well as product that may not have met company standards. As a
frequent shopper of both companies, I receive digital coupons via email at least once a week that
offer either a percentage off an order or free shipping. It is however rare to find promotional offers
in main line stores such as Nike's or Under Armour's flagship location because heavy promotions
may increase sales in the short term but it'll dilute the brand image in the long term. Both Nike and
Under Armour both operate in the same industry which means their promotional periods are most
often in sync. When the spring season begins, both retailers will begin to discount their winter wear
such as long tights and heavier fabric sweatshirts and replace it with more weather appropriate
clothing. This is why many times you see products from both companies show up at discounters
such as TJMaxx or Marshalls around this

Comanche Indians Essay
COMANCHE INDIANS
The Comanches, exceptional horsemen who dominated the Southern Plains, played a prominent role
in Texas frontier history throughout much of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
Anthropological evidence indicates that they were originally a mountain tribe, a branch of the
Northern Shoshones, who roamed the Great Basin region of the western United States as crudely
equipped hunters and gatherers. Both cultural and linguistic similarities confirm the Comanches'
Shoshone origins. The Comanche language is derived from the Uto–Aztecan linguistic family and is
virtually identical to the language of the Northern Shoshones. Sometime during the late seventeenth
century, the Comanches acquired horses, and that acquisition ... Show more content on

As many as thirteen different, Comanche bands were identified during the historic period, and most
probably there were others that were never identified. However, five major bands played important
roles in recorded Comanche history.
The southernmost band was called Penateka, or "Honey Eaters." Their range extended
from the Edwards Plateau to the headwaters of the Central Texas rivers. Because of their location,
the Penatekas played the most prominent role in Texas history. North Of Penateka, country was the
habitat of the band called Nokoni, or "Those Who Turn Back." The Nokonis roamed
from the Cross Timbers region of North Texas to the mountains of New Mexico. Two smaller bands,
the Tanima ("Liver–Eaters") and the Tenawa ("Those Who Stay
Downstream"), shared the range of the Nokonis. These three divisions are sometimes referred
to collectively as Middle Comanches. Still farther north was the range of the Kotsotekas, or
"Buffalo–Eaters." Their territory covered what is now western Oklahoma, where they
often camped along the Canadian River. The northernmost band was known as the Yamparikas, or
"Yap–Eaters," a name derived from that of an edible root. Their range extended north to
the Arkansas River. The fifth major band, known as Quahadis ("Antelopes"), roamed the high plains
of the Llano Estacado.

Analysis Of The Legendary Legend
Really it depends on belief and religion. For example, if you're a Christian, then the belief is that the
prickly leaves represent the crown of thorns Jesus wore when he was crucified. The berries represent
the blood that he shed, because of the crown of thorns. I know that's the right one but since I like to
make up my own stuff that's not how it goes in this story. Once there was a girl and a boy. The boy's
name so Chucky. The girl's name I'd Carrie. They were extremely good friends. More than friends,
best friends. One day Chucky and Carrie were out in the woods. The woods of The Legendary
Legend. There was an old legend about these woods. A boy and girl, Chucky and Carrie were best
friends, they went to the woods every day after school. It's supposed to be haunted by some weird
evil ghost. Chucky and Carrie didn't believe it though. They wanted some proof. That's why they
went there everyday after school, for some proof. There was something that Chucky was always
hiding from Carrie, even in the beginning. He had strong feelings for Carrie, that Carrie never knew
about. Carrie didn't quite feel the same way. She had a secret boyfriend that Chucky didn't know
about. After a while, they sat alone on a rock to rest after about a five mile hike or so. "Hey, Carrie,"
Chucky says in a nervous voice, "I've been thinkin..." "Wow, hold up Chuck. Don't tell me a
thing,it's scary when you think." Carrie say. This makes Chucky smile. "Please,"

Censorship Controversy South Park
South park censorship controversy South Park have always received mixed response from it's
audiences. Famous for the use of foul language, dark humour which satirizes a wide range of topics
(such as politics, racism, gender equality e.t.c.) and portrayal of religion for comic effect, the show
generated countless debates and controversy over the course of it's run. The debate over censorship
of some episodes, and the show as a whole continues nowadays, and both sides seem to have truth
behind their words. Pro–censorship group states that South Park is harmful for young minds, that
religion is not the right thing to joke about and that show has to know it's limits. Anti–censorship

Some schools banned South Park related merchandise for students, and parent councils in UK
expressed concern when their children voted Cartman as their favourite personality in 1999 poll.
From Matt Stone's point of view, this poll should be an eye opener to parents. "Kids are not nice,
innocent, flower–loving little rainbow children. Kids are all little bastards; they don't have any kind
of social tact or etiquette." He reckons. (Lim D. 1998) Result of the said poll serves as a good
evidence that South Park has a certain level of impact on the children. If kids vote for a specific
character, it means that they can relate to that character in one way or another, and children tend to
imitate what they see or like. Is Eric Cartman a good influence for children? I don't think so. Not
only people who fight for safety of children reacted on the show's content. Religious people also had
something to say about specific episodes of the show. Portrayal of Virgin Mary in 139th episode of
South Park angered several Catholics, and creators also received threat messages for portrayal of
proper Muhammad in 143rd episode. The show's aim is to provoke and offend, so the reaction is

"It 's been two hours. Maybe she 's in for the night." Logan whined, hopeful and uneasy. They 'd

now knew why. He was thinking tonight was a bust, more than a bust, he reminded himself, because
he 'd spent way too much time with Veronica Mars.
"Easy, boy, you wanna catch this cheater or don 't you?" Veronica figured she was genuinely asking.
She 'd seen the face of her dad 's clients who changed their mind about answers they didn 't like.

"Okay, sure, another night. I love you." Logan said, dryly, while Veronica inspected a fingernail.
"Gotta go, babe, see ya." The line cut off anticlimactically, as the Miata pulled away, Veronica
tugging Logan lower in his seat– just in case, shooting him a look.
Veronica waited a beat, giving Missy some space for a few seconds.
"So, was that as weird as it sounded to me?" She started up the LeBaron, keeping her eyes off Logan
's plain–faced confusion.
"Oh yeah, I wanna know what the hell that was." He flipped his phone open and closed a couple
times, leaning his elbows on his knees.
They followed along for a few streets, Veronica getting a bad feeling like a spidey–sense curse. This
was going to be so bad.
"If she 's going to Weevil 's she has the world 's suckiest navigation system." Veronica let herself
think outloud. She hadn 't told Logan about Weevil 's suggestion of other guys, but it wasn 't looking
great as far as confirming that negative. Logan 's head was in his hands. A redlight held them up, a
car behind Missy 's.
"So, this is, uh, what you do, huh? You know, when I pictured you all commando spy, there was a
little more leather." He breathed, trying to get distance from what was actually happening. Stalking

Basketball Is More Than Just A Sport

Senior Project Basketball is more than just a sport Dwayne Wade was born January 17, 1982 in
Chicago, Illinois. Most people see Wade as just an NBA star who has a lot of money, but most
people don't know the full story of what he has been through in his life and how he got to the NBA.
When Wade was born, his parents separated a short while after and custody was given to his mother.
Then because of the crime in Chicago and financial issues Wade had to move with his father. This is
where Dwayne Wade began to play basketball and found out that he was really good at it. He was a
star on his high school varsity basketball team then moved up to the college and was unable to play
for his first two years because of his grades. For these two years that Wade couldn't play he still
practiced with the team and continued to work on and improve his game. In 2003 Wade entered the
NBA draft and was selected to play with the Miami Heat where he made himself an All–star and still
is an all–star today. People who play basketball are affected in many positive ways by it. African–
Americans that come from low–income families and dangerous neighborhoods often play
basketball. Young African Americans see playing basketball as a ticket to a better life and a cheaper
education. Black students receive more athletic scholarships than any other race. In 2008 African
Americans received twenty three percent of all athletic

Because of their skills as trades, the Comanches controlled much of the commerce of the Southern
Plains. They bartered buffalo products, horses, and captives for manufactured items and foodstuffs.
SHELTER
The familiar Plains – type teepee constructed of tan buffalo hide stretched over sixteen to eighteen
lodge poles provided portable shelter for the Comanches.
CLOTHING
Their clothing, made of Bison hide or Buckskin, consisted of breechcloth, leggings, and moccasins
for men, and fringed skirt, poncho–style blouse, leggings, and moccasins for women. Buffalo robes
provided protection from cold weather.
TRANSPORTATION
However, it was the horse that most clearly defined the Comanche way of life. It gave them mobility
to follow the buffalo herds and the advantage of hunting and conducting warfare from horseback.
Horses also became a measure of Comanche wealth and a valuable trade commodity. In
horsemanship, the Comanches had no equal. Children learned to ride at an early age, and both men
and women developed exceptional equestrian skills.
GORVERNMENT
Democratic principle was strongly implanted in Comanche political organization. Each tribal
division had both civil or peace chiefs and war chiefs, but traditionally the head civil chief was most
influential. Leaders gained their positions through

What Instrument Was Best For Me
Jazz Standards
Music isn 't just what I do, it 's who I am, and who I've always been. I play twelve instruments.
Some fluently, some only a singular note or, maybe a song. This all started out in sixth grade when I
could not decide what instrument was best for me. I started out my first two months of middle
school by switching from instrument to instrument. I began with the oboe, and a week later, I
changed to percussion. Only then, did I attempt to play all of the brass instruments–– and I mean all
of them–– trumpet, french horn, tuba, trombone, and baritone, you name it, and I've probably played
it. Next, I moved on to all of the woodwinds, flutes, clarinets, and all of the saxophones. Again, I
cycled through the percussion instruments once again. Finally, I decided that I would rather play
notes on a staff than beat something with a stick. I was forced, by my very irritated band teacher, to
pick one of the two that I was better at, the alto saxophone or the trumpet. Two completely different
musical instruments in two completely different musical families. Of course, as an indecisive twelve
year old, I could not pick. Mr. Deneen, a woodwind player himself, chose the alto saxophone.
The alto saxophone has stuck with me for many years–– six, to be exact. My sixth grade year I
became really good at playing my saxophone. I went from indecisiveness to first chair in a matter of
weeks. In fact, I was so talented that I was moved up into the eighth grade band as a sixth grader.

Sidney Bechet's Major Accomplishments
Sidney Bechet was one of many fantastic up and coming jazz musicians in the Roaring Twenties. He
started on the clarinet, but eventually became one of the first performers to adopt the soprano
saxophone as a main instrument, as well as one of the first to improvise with the swing style of jazz.
In addition, he was one of the first artists to record using a multitrack which was a way of recording
where you would play back the track from one instrument while you recorded with another
instrument and continued this process until you had all of the instruments you wanted. These strides
helped Bechet stand out from other musicians as he progressed through his career. Bechet grew up
in a musical household and toured with popular bands from a young age. His father and four
brothers all played instruments, so his passion for music came as no shock. Although his ability to

Bechet's compositions includes Les Oignons, Promenade aux Champ Elysées, Petite Fleur, Si Tous
Vous ma Mère, Chant in the Night, Blues in the Air, Bechet's Fantasy, Quincy Street Stomp, and
Summertime. Common themes throughout his work include vibrato and 12 – 14 bar blues melodies.
He was also known for his improvisation, solos like those of Louis Armstrong, and especially for
conveying intense emotion through his music. Duke Ellington, a fellow jazz musician, once
described Bechet as "The very epitome of jazz, everything he played in his entire life was
completely original. I honestly think he was the most unique man ever to be in this music."
Throughout his career he played in the Marion Cook's Syncopated Orchestra, Louis Mitchell's Jazz
King, Duke Ellington's Washingtonians, and the Noble Sissle Orchestra. He also went on to teach
Bob Wilbur who also became a famous clarinetist and saxophonist. Bechet made the most of his
career and continued to produce music for most of his

Characteristics Of Somerset Maugham's Writing Style
William Somerset Maugham was considered to be the popular English fiction writer of the 20th
century. He wrote many novels, plays and short stories, many of those were admired as master
pieces. It drew attention of the critics and readers due to its multi–dimensional aspects, which
offered entertainment including the serious issues of human life, for that matter it resulted in being
popular fiction of the time.
His popularity urged many critics to analyze his work from different dimensions. The critics
discussed his works with the advantage to explore the qualities of writer as well as to point out the
flaws of his work. The critics discovered many themes along with stylistic features of his novels in
plays and short stories. Maugham has produced a large number of fictional works and it seems
impossible to bring in all the reviews of his works. The literature review is generally based on
critic's opinion on his writing style and themes; it particularly talks about those critiques ... Show

The simplicity as a common trait in all of his works, had influence on his readers and critics.
Swinnerton admires him as a true story teller due to his plain and modest writing style. Maugham
wrote for the writing's sake, he neither interfered in political matters nor he struggled to be the
guardian of society (19). Jack Collins examined similar characteristic in Maugham's style. He
justifies popularity of Maugham as a writer by providing two reasons: firstly, he has the capability to
create a plot which is direct, it goes on with "linear clarity" that no one can find obscurity in the plot.
Secondly, his quality to develop the "dramatic intensity" has remarkable effects on the story that it
turns the characters into "demonic forces" (16). This intensity in his works attracts the readers to pay
honest attention while reading. His works are the satisfaction of those people who like to "get on
with the story" (Brander

Essay The Music of Charles Ives
In 1894, a young, quietly colorful Charles Ives enters Yale University. He enters with a strong
musical foundation provided by his father and community and a vision of what he thinks music can
be. Horatio Parker, Ives's composition professor unashamedly informs Ives that his vision of music
seems blurry, perhaps even nauseating, to the astute, cultured musician. Ives quickly develops anger
towards Parker's traditional tutelage and rarely recognizes the positive effects Parker has on his
compositions. Here begins the battle between new and old that Ives and Parker embarked upon
during Ives's college years, however the story starts and ends far from their four short years together.

American composers, like William Billings, were able to write, for the most part, free from existing
patterns.
It wasn't until the mid 1800s that word came from Europe about these high–art composers, perhaps
scaring these once–free New World composers. From then on, the trend of aspiring American
composers was to make the pilgrimage to Europe for training. Composers such as George Chadwick
were some of the first to make the trip. Chadwick describes his studies abroad as having to
harmonize Bach chorales for four years . Correct voice leading and harmony was probably most
accurate when confused with that of Bach. This type of analysis and composition was brought back
as a trend, just as one might bring back the latest European fashion from Milan.
Even with composers writing one hundred years prior to the Second New England School,
American music was still in its infancy, often turning to the far more advanced European model for
guidance. I would imagine this to be similar to wanting to be taught how to hold chopsticks from
someone directly from Japan as opposed to someone from Uruguay, even though the person from
Uruguay may have better form that the person from Japan. Along with American composers
traveling to Europe for training, the New England School often sought guidance from Europeans
who had emigrated to the United States, namely those from Germany. I imagine that the Second
School had full intentions of creating

The Television Show South Park
The difference between the intended meaning of media texts and what the audience actually
perceives can be shockingly different. Producers of media can do everything possible to force
audiences to experience their work in the way they want them to, but in the end they still take away
many different meanings even within the same audience. Stuart Hall outlines this in his encoding
and decoding model. One of the most apparent examples of this is the television show South Park.
The television show South Park is a media text with the producers' preferred meaning of being
decoded as joke or as being satire, but many audience members take an oppositional stance of taking
it seriously. This is clear from the examples of controversy when South Park aired episodes focused
on Scientology, red–headed people, and Islam. Through these examples it is demonstrated that the
producers of media have less power compared to the audience in determining the meaning of media.
In Hall's encoding and decoding model he argues that encoding and decoding the meaning of media
is not a single–sided process but one shared by both the producers and the audience. The producers
encode their preferred meaning into the media using frameworks of knowledge, relations of
production, and technical infrastructure (Hall, 1997). Frameworks of knowledge are the producers'
beliefs and what they assume about the audience's beliefs. Relations of production are the needs of
the financial side of the industry. Technical

the film, as well as its success, have brought about the tropes in the television comedy film. To begin
with, Brent and Peggy argue that the film is not dedicated to children as the producer of the film
says (Arp, 17). This is because there is a general humor that is not suitable for young viewers as
there is a negative description of the liberal causes as well as a comic effect on religion that has
generated controversy causing debate. They argue that it is dangerous for democracy. There are

The Parker Brothers : The Grand Day Of Revelation
The Parker brothers were exceptionally impeccable from a young age deriving their personalities
from their humble religious parents. They were raised in a catholic paltry cottage in Pennsylvania.
This destitute home and lifestyle was part of their parents' scheme. Through their entire childhood
and early teenage years the Parker brothers were being prepared to receive a high inheritance from
their departed great grandfather. This treasure had been preserved for them, and it had since then
grown. After eighteen years of preparation, the grand day of revelation finally arrived.
Jonathan and Joshua Parker were overwhelmed and speechless upon discovering their true descents.
When they received their checks, their parents advised, "Remember everything we have taught you
and do not let this wealth change your moral way of living." Their father affectingly explained why
he denied the inheritance and why he saved it for his children. This warmed the Parker brothers'
hearts, and they promised that they would continue to live according to the values they were taught.
The following day, they headed to the bank to claim their family's treasure.
Joshua pondered, "I still do not understand how on earth this is possible! Do you really think these
checks are real? I don't even know what's real anymore."
"I'm not so sure either. I've been thinking and what I don't understand is why mom and dad did not

Queen vs. Dudley and Stephens
Regina v. Dudley and Stephens
There have been many criminal cases in the history, which brought controversy, whether murder
could be justified under different circumstances. One of the famous cases tells a story of four
shipwrecked men, which were lost in the high seas. The story was named "The Lifeboat Case",
regarding the tragic and life–changing decision that was made in extreme circumstance. Four
seamen, Thomas Dudley, Edward Stephens, Brooks and seventeen year old Richard Parker were in
high seas and due to the storm that hit them very bad, they had to put themselves into an open boat.
They did not have any supply of water and food, except 1 lb. tin of turnips. On the fourth day of this

As the ship started to sink, men barely managed to get into a lifeboat and by the time they were
trying to save their lives, all of supplies of water and food were gone. Professor Teuber clarifies it,
saying: "Unfortunately, the emergency supply of water that they had hastily thrown overboard next
to the dinghy was swept away by the waves" (people.brandeis.edu). Since Teuber acknowledged that
Dudley was the captain of the ship, it might also be the reason of why all decisions were made by
Dudley. He might have felt himself responsible for men's life and tried to save as much as he could,
by sacrificing one. One of the details Teuber mentioned was that the rest of seamen were rescued by
a German boat, called "Montezuma", which was heading home from South America. As soon as
they delivered men to Falmouth and started questioning them, it was clear that they have committed
a crime. However, Brook's name wasn't mentioned as one of the prisoners throughout the story. And
Teuber reveals the reason, saying:"The upright Dudley immediately insisted that he was the
ringleader and that Brooks was completely innocent" (people.brandeis.edu). So that's why Brooks
played as a prosecution's witness. The most remarkable situation in this case, was the peace between
Dudley and the Richard's brother Daniel Parker. He even came to court and shook Dudley's hand.

It 's Only A Game
It's Only a Game – Isn't It? A small group of people sat around a ouija board expecting nothing to

when the planchette stopped moving and the room became cold; the air turned thick and heavy.
Something entered the space, a feeling of distress surrounded the group. They became paranoid, and
felt like there was something looking at them from the dark corners. After what felt like hours trying
to end the session, the planchette still refused to move, almost as if it was frozen on the board. As
their impatience quickly grew, they forced the planchette to goodbye. The feeling of despair had

FOX gave them $2,000 to make a video portfolio that he could send as a Christmas card to other
company executives to pitch the idea of the show. "I did the animation using nothing more then
construction paper cutouts," Parker says, "and we both improvised the dialogue, screaming
obscenities at each other in my basement for hours while my mom was baking fudge upstairs
wondering what in the world we were doing. It cost $750 and we pocketed the rest." To complete
this project they used relatively the same exact setup as they had previously done at the University
of Colorado in Boulder. When it came to doing work for the first Pilot show for South Park, Matt
and Trey used more than 5,000 construction paper cut outs and a the same exact 16mm camera.
Each action shot was filmed frame by frame directly onto video film. It took approximately 70 days
to make the pilot for the show. Using traditional methods for the Comedy Central pilot the duo
claimed it "took us forever, because it was 22 minutes long," Stone says. Another animator, Terrence
Masson, was the first to suggest that South Park could be made using CG and he proceeded to make
a 10 second playground scene using cut–outs he had received with approval from Matt and Trey.
Computers were used starting with the very first episode, but the episodes didn't look like
construction–paper animation again until episode 105, "An Elephant Makes Love to a Pig."

SEXISM, RACISM AND STEREOTYPES IN SOUTH PARK
Racial Stereotyping, racism, gender stereotyping and sexism are some of the strengths of South
Park. This TV show was created with a purpose to make racism and sexism funny and acceptable.
South Park is a television show that was created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone. It circumvents the
lives of 4 boys namely Eric Cartmen, Kenny McCormick, Stan Marsh and Kyle Broflovski around
the town of Colorado. This show mainly aims at picking up various stereotypes in different societies
and making fun of them. It is highly racist and makes fun of different genders and performs the act

Analysing the character of Stan Marsh. This character has been modeled around Trey Parker and
obviously is one of the more stable characters of the show whereas Kyle is modeled after Matt Stone
and this character also displays a certain amount of stability. Throughout the series there are
accounts of his deep friendship between Stan and Kyle. Since the creators are best friends from
college, in many of the episodes there is a reference to their undying friendship, They have their
fights but they do so without having any long–term effect on their friendship. Stan also maintained a
close relation with Kenny and at many a times Kenny has confessed, "Stan is the best friend a guy
could ever have." Stan is also the only character who has a stable relationship with Wendy. All in all
he portrays a much subtle version of the characters of South Park. But at the same time Stan is foul
mouthed, what the creator are trying to show is how young boys speak to each other when they are
alone.
Kyle Broflovski is based on Matt Stone and displays great signs of friendship with Stan Marsh. Kyle
is also know as the "only the Jewish kid." He is one of the sober characters on screen as he portrays
to be very smart and intelligent and uses it to solve problems in a more moral and ethical manner

Analysis : ' Veronica Mars '
Inhaling and exhaling a deep breath, Veronica tried to ignore the ticking in her head that counted the
seconds she'd been seated at Dominick's. Her table was a strategic choice; far from, but angled
towards, the door– a perfect position to watch for any man that had the slightest potential to be
CA152. Talking to a stranger and daring to meet the man and be nervous about it, there was some
silliness in that. Waiting at a table alone, with a rose as identification felt completely silly to
Veronica. Wait a minute, was that... Veronica's watchful eyes caught a glimpse of Logan Echolls,
striding into Dominick's with a big grin on his face.
"Crap," Veronica sighed, and angled her face towards the cafe's window, momentarily forgetting ...

"No," Veronica offered a cold smile. "That's not him. I hope not, anyway." Watching the old couple

"You hope not? Ms. Mars are you meeting a stranger here? That's awfully unsafe and irresponsible
of you." Shaking his head and tsk–tsk–tsking his tongue at her, Logan waved the waiter over for two
coffees, to stay.
"Not a stranger stranger, and I can take care of myself, thank you." Tapping her fingers on the table,
she couldn't help but want Logan Echolls to disappear. From here specifically, from life in general;
Earth as a whole. "What are you doing here, anyway? Thinking about opening a coffee shop and you
wanna know what smalltown holes–in–the–walls you'll be ousting?"
"Fine, I deserve that one. No, as a matter of fact, I'm just looking to small–time invest in the natural
holes–in–the–walls of Neptune. Starting with this cup of coffee." Saluting the mug to her, Logan
blinked with the realization that he'd been given the rare opportunity to see both sides of a person.
Publicly, or at least around him, too often Veronica Mars' mouth was pressed into a firm, straight
line, unwilling to compromise her opinion of him. Privately, with CA152, she'd been soft, funny, a
source of laughter and an outlet for vulnerability. Sipping his coffee, he watched her eyes move
towards the door and then refocus on him. "You

Swing Music And The Popularity Of Swing Music
Swing band arrangements were in large part composed, often of simple, repeated material, or "riffs,"
that alternated between contrapuntal lines and intense unison rhythms. Improvisation also had a
featured role, and soloists would play while the rest of the band, aside from the rhythm section,
dropped out or played arranged background lines.
POPULARITY OF SWING MUSIC
One explanation for swing music's popularity is that its driving intensity and abandon represented
pleasure and freedom in a time when the country was steeped in hard times. The Great Depression
caused Americans to suffer, and dancing to swing music was a way for people to forget their
worries. Swing music featured a section of three or four trumpeters, three or four trombonist, five
saxophonists who often doubled on clarinets, a piano, a bassist instead of a tuba player, a guitarist,
and a drummer.
During the 1930s, swing came to symbolize joy and ease, the weight of which was reflected in Duke
Ellington's piece, "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)."

The project's scope (quality) is a statement of work expectation. The scope communicates the
purpose, features, facts, substance, and ultimately the result of the project. The cost (resource)
element both deal with the money value of the project because money is needed to fund the
resources. Resources can include employment charges and necessary materials. The schedule (time)
element analyzes the time necessary to complete each section of the program. After the analysis, the
manager will have a clearer understanding of how much time to set aside to complete a particular
task or the entire project. The wedding date is set for November 21, 2011, and the expected
completion date of the project is November 22, 2011. November 22 is the date chosen so that
management and team members can determination whether or not the project was managed
successfully ("The Triple Constraints of Projects: Quality, Cost and Schedule", n.d.).
Budget
The manager of the wedding project categorizes the workers needed and the costs associated. In
addition, the manager must include other project constraints such as the budget. Budget constraints
affect the workers who will be hired thereby affecting the cost and resource constraint. The
following items are included in the wedding budget: 1. Attire & Accessories 2. Beauty & Spa 3.

South Park Censorship
Freedom of expression entitles humans to articulate our own unique vocabulary, especially when
their opinions differ from others. South Park is a notorious paragon tackling censorship boundaries
with brilliant wordplay every episode and implementing freedom of speech. For me, the program
serves as a weekly litmus test of censorship and freedom of expression. South Park is the brainchild
of college friends Trey Parker and Matt Stone. This TV show, on the Comedy Central Network, is a
cartoon but not for children. On August 13, 1997, the first airing, South Park became the first major

South Park wanted to show homage to the French satirical paper that published comedic pictures of
Muhammad. The creators dedicated 200 and 201 to the paper after their own convictions; both
episodes would feature Muhammad as well. Comedy Central received threats of extreme violence if
the prophet Muhammad was displayed in any way on the show. The creative group behind South
Park was prepared to endure the repercussions of their comedy. In 200, Muhammad is in a truck to
include, but exclude the character from vision. I think they were concerned about the approach of
giving in to the ultimatum, and essentially backing down altogether. The boundaries regarding
freedom of expression should not adjust to the whims or threats of bullies otherwise known as
terrorists. The network received more threats of terror and the morning of the airing of 201, the
network censored Muhammad with a giant box all over his face with "CENSORED" written on it.

The Redeeming Qualities of South Park Essay
The television show South Park is a very controversial show which has been attacked by the media,
politicians, parents, the school system, and just about every other social group imaginable. Why is
the show so controversial? The reason it is attacked so thoroughly is because of its crude humor and
vulgar displays by its characters, as well as the fact that it attacks the thoughts and beliefs of every
religion in the world. This vulgarity and intolerance is most notable in the character Cartman, who is
extremely offensive in his thoughts, ideas, and actions. The show does, however, provide a balance
to Cartman's antics through his co–stars Stan and Kyle. Stan, and Kyle almost always stand up to

Censorship has been around as long as written words have been available to the general public, and
whether or not that suppression of ideas is a good idea or not does not change the fact that it is the
parent's job to decide what their children will be allowed to read, watch, or play with. Those who
criticize the show based on these offenses are either being intolerant themselves, or not paying close
attention to the deeper meaning of the show. The show centers around Cartman as the antagonist,
who regularly provides insulting views, and Stan and Kyle, whom provide opposing views in order
to balance out Cartman's stances. An example of this occurs in the episode "Something This Way
Wall Mart Comes." Wal–Mart's overtaking of towns, and the social injustice that occurs with its
arrival, is portrayed as a local small business that they boys shop at is closed because of the loss of
business that occurs when Wal–Mart comes to their town. After reflecting on their friend's plight
Stan says "See, that sucks dude" and Cartman replies "What, that's called progress Kyle" (Parker
and Stone, 2004). This is just one example where Cartman shows his selfish nature. All he cares
about is the fact that a huge new store is open and he can get his mother to buy him all the best new
toys, while Stan and

Charlie Parker. In the early 1940's, the swing bands began to all sound the same as well as work
along predictable chord changes.1 The music was now not used for dancing. Some people believed
that this would let the music go away from the elite social groups, and now be for everybody. Also
just because a musician could play swing music well, there was no guarantee that the same musician

The Music Of Jazz Music Essay
Ever since Jelly Roll Morton revolutionised jazz music in the early 1920's, Piano has played a vital
role in the development of Jazz music with greats such as Duke Ellington influencing jazz from the
start of the swing era (Gioia, 2011). Jazz Pianists were often on the forefront of the ongoing
development of jazz music. However, when the bebop era dawned, piano seemed to move into the
background, with people like John Coltrane and Miles Davis leading the charge. However, this did
not mean the piano disappeared, far from it; Jazz music is a genre that is in constant flux, driven by
the players in the music. Often, the most famous jazz musicians were the most innovative and
forward thinking players of their respective eras. Musicians hold jazz pedigree and genealogy in
high regard, where playing with and learning from the masters that came before was almost a
necessity. Some musicians learn from meticulously studying and transcribing solos and
compositions performed by previous masters. Pianos ability to play melody and harmony together
made it one of the most complex and diverse instruments in the world, especially in jazz music,
being able to perform solo with rich musical timbres and complexity. Players such as Bill Evans and
Thelonious Monk, whom are discussed in this paper, helped revolutionise jazz and bebop music in
their own way, and are some of the best jazz pianists of all time, driving the genre of jazz forever
forward (Solomon, 2013).

legacy of groundbreaking work that he had done accomplished with the trombone. When J.J.
Johnson was 11 years old, his mother, Nina, sent him to piano lessons, and he briefly played the

needed a trombone player, so he took the opportunity and never looked back. Johnson and his

The birth of Bebop music was built on a similar evolutionary process that has taken over many
different art forms since the beginning of human history. There was a yearning for change and a
desire to break the binding chains of the standard New Orleans jazz, Dixieland, and Swing music
(Aycock, 1997). In the 1940's Dizzy Gillespie and a legion of young and talented musicians went to
war against traditional jazz music and forged a new modern landscape of immense record sales,
popularity and fame. The creation of Bebop catered to the would–be gods of jazz, because their
talent rose to the top. Musical characteristics of Bebop shifted away from simple melody variations
and moved towards intense improvisation and difficult harmonic progressions (Horricks, 1984).
There was an air of confidence brewing amongst the young innovators and a sense of pride in
maintaining their dominance. Dizzy Gillespie said this about the subject, "There were some who
couldn't blow at all but would take six or seven choruses to prove it. So on afternoons before a
session Thelonious Monk and I began to work out some complex variations on chords and the like,
and we used them at night to scare away the no–talent guys (Horricks, 1984, p. 30)." The crucible
that bred the Bebop style was New York City and the famous Minton's Playhouse (Aycock, 1997).
This venue can be viewed as a more of a laboratory of modern jazz experiments than a simple small
club.

to the death of his father and stayed home for about a half a year while playing in a small band there.
Then in late 1939 Charlie joined back up with McShann and moved back to Harlem, where Charlie
would meet Dizzie Gillespie. Gillespie would join Charlie and would start to work together and
develop a new form of jazz. While Charlie was experimenting with a number of different chords in a
jam session he discovered a new approach to improvisation. These new chord progressions and the

Parker would eventually need a break from New York City and decided to travel to California where

Bebop Jazz
Jazz is a genre of music in which improvisation is typically an important part. Jazz has had a major
influence on most popular music genres in the 20th century such as rock, hip–hop, Latin and the list
goes on. There's a genre of jazz for every single individual out there which makes it such an
interesting topic and from there branches another very popular subgenre of jazz called Bebop.
Bebop is a style of jazz which was developed in the 1940s. Bebop had the effect of removing jazz
from the mainstream of popular tunes which was mainly for dancing and focused on music that was
presented as a form of art other than entertainment. Just like many subgenres of jazz, bebop was

to protect their children from what they deem inappropriate, and that censorship of anything
(particularly in movies and TV) is simply a parental tool for escaping blame. In the climax of the
film the parents sing a song whose words are meant to blame Canada before anyone blames the
parents for their poor parenting skills. It is also seen that a couple abandons their baby in the
enthusiasm to join the other parents in singing.
Much of the film's satire and many of the songs depict how people refuse to accept responsibility
and the tendency to look for someone else to blame .It should be noted in the film movies,

Censoring South Park
Dick Cavett, a famous American talk show host, once said, "Censorship feeds the dirty mind more
than the four–letter word itself." Censorship limits free speech, and it is used constantly today. In
South Park's situation, the writers use logic and evidence to express their opinions on controversial
issues, and people think that it should be censored. Just because the show uses morally questionable
techniques, does not mean that it is useless. In fact, South Park has taught people a lot; it changes
our point of view and encourages us to think deeply about the issues at hand while simultaneously
making us laugh. For people unfamiliar with South Park, it is an animated comedy television which

These groups do not only criticize the use of profanity in South Park.
Another huge controversy South Park has created is their depiction of religion. South Park has
parodied almost every major religion so it is understandable that many people are offended. In the
episode, Trapped in the Closet, South Park basically calls Scientology a global scam. The LDS
church responded to the episode, All About Mormons, by calling it a gross portrayal of the LDS
church. The creators of South Park claim that any topic is subject to ridicule, but, because of the
Jyllands–Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy, South Park has censored images of Muhammad.
While they have not been able to ridicule Islam directly, – which is something that the creators never
planned to do until this controversy arose – they still mock the censorship controversy itself.
Christianity is, by far, the most often parodied religion in South Park. Arguably, the most offensive
parody South Park has done involving Christianity is the depiction of Jesus. In South Park, Jesus has
his own talk show and appears to be just ordinary. As a recurring character, South Park's Jesus has
engaged in acts of speaking profanity, violence, and has been shown with the inability to perform his
miracles. Critics of the show say that these controversial portrayals confuse and corrupt children.
The creators of South Park have defended these accusations of their show. Matt Stone, co–creator of
South Park, says "kids don't

One O Clock Jump Poem Essay
While "One O'Clock Jump" has more similarities to swing it is still an example of modernism. In
Coleman Hawkins "One O'Clock Jump" one can notice the more similarities with swing, compared
to "Body and Soul," however, one can still hear a more detailed portrayal. The song has more flow
and more beats than swing usually has. Thus, use of more beats is part of the new technique that
Coleman Hawkins used. The use of the new techniques shows how one can see modernism in "One
O'Clock Jump." However, due to the similarities to swing one would not necessary have to see this
song of Hawkins as part of bebop or modernism.
Another song of Hawkins that not necessary has to be seen as modernism is "Every Man For
Himself." In "Every Man For Himself" there is again a faster pace. While one could still call it
swing one could say how the faster pacing made it part of modernism. Yet one can again argue how
the similarities to swing, still made it swing and a new term as bebop would not have been
necessary. Would "Body and Soul" not have been as different from swing as it was both "One
O'Clock Jump" and "Every Man For Himself" would not necessary be part of bebop. So, both these
songs are part of modernism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Hawkins went to Europe he did not experience the rapid urbanization that was happening in the
United States. Although, he did keep several records of American artists, so he could still listen to
the changes that were happening. As well as the techniques he learned in Europe, would eventually
lead to the new techniques that he used in the United States. Thus, while he did not experience the
changes in the thirties he did keep up to date to these changes, and was part of the changes that were
made in the late thirties and early forties. That he was part of the changes shows how he is still an
example of modernism. Even though he did not experience the rapid urbanization, he was the one
who made the

Book Report : ' Thank You '
"First of all, thank you all for coming, I felt silly enough preparing a few words, I would've felt
incredibly silly to have to read it to a room full of only books," Veronica paused at chuckles, saving
a smile across the room for Logan. "Thank you, is actually really the only words I came up with for
tonight– regardless of what it says on the covers, books are not written by singular people, books are
written by one person having an idea and the time to follow it, with a whole support system behind
them." Eyes glittering around the room, she saw Logan, Mac, Wallace, Weevil, and even Dick, and
Veronica Mars is not about to get emotional at a book launch, even her's; she isn't.
"A long–time friend who's a brilliant publisher, best ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In her heels, she was taller than she was used to being against him. Pulling him down to kiss him
was easier, with the shortened height differential.
"I like this ending better," Laughing into her hair, he remembered stinking like alcohol in a wet suit.
"I'm sure there's very throwable booze around here somewhere, you should probably still be
careful," Arms wrapped around his shoulders, Veronica was sure she was supposed to be mingling
or signing books or taking pictures with local bookpeople– but she figured she had time for another
long kiss. And another.
"Good thing I brought a present then," Leaning away from her for a second, to retrieve a box from
his suit pocket, Logan present a small, velvet box. Unassuming, but Logan still found himself
holding his breath. "Here. A congratulations present; something I've wanted to give you for like.. Six
months." Almost sheepishly, Logan slipped the box into her hands. "Don't be nervous, you have
nervous–face," He teased.
Opening the box, Veronica found a small silver key, with the word Shopgirl engraved in it's top.
"I know it's not a pony like you've been dreaming of, but it's the skeleton key for the houseboat. Mi
casa es officially su casa, providing you–"
"I love it." Smoothing her thumbnail over the engraving, Veronica laughed to herself.
Over her shoulder, Dick caught a beam of light reflecting off the key, and laughed, too.
"So the houseboat's not a

Everything you need to know about in this weekly: All the best trailers that came out of SDCC
2016, watch the first South Park game like a movie, a mysterious purple orb is found underwater off
the California coast, and No Man 's Sky shows gamers how to survive in one of the biggest games
ever released.
At Social Underground we go beyond the mainstream stuff and see what's underneath the surface.
What should we get into, listen to, read, eat or watch? If there is something in our culture that needs
attention that's our job: Show you the underground things that you need to know about: Books,
music, television, movies, comedians, art, and whatever else we can find to get you into something
you never knew about. That's The Underground.
1. Here are the best trailers from SDCC 2016.
comic–con
Comic–Con has given us a lot of good stuff this year. Surprisingly, it didn 't really give us anything
from the Star Wars Universe in terms of live–action movie stuff. We expected another trailer for
Rogue One, but that never actually happened. Either way, we got some great stuff from DC, Marvel,
and the other companies that also happen to make films. Also, there were comics there. But SDCC
doesn 't really care about comics and more, do they? Hell no. In anycase, here are the best movies
trailers to come out of SDCC in no particular order:

Under Armour Vs Nike

  • 1. Under Armour Vs Nike Acting as two of the largest companies in the athletic apparel business by market share, both Nike and Under Amour, like the wearers of their products, know how to win. Whether it is the Air Mag, Nikes newest product invention or Under Armours 10 year partnership with Major League Baseball commencing in 2020, each company is taking a different approach to grow their business and become the "it" player in its industry. Although long term strategies devised by Nike CEO Mark Parker and Under Armours Kevin Plank may focus on different growth initiatives, when looked at more closely, one will find the many similarities between both firms. The grounds of comparison and contrast I will be using fall into the categories of product development, brand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unless you are one of the few companies that are free of this such as Hermes or Chanel, promotion is inevitable. This particular aspect of the strategies of both companies is where they lie most similar. Both Under Armour and Nike both own factory outlet stores where they ship off old inventory at a discounted price as well as product that may not have met company standards. As a frequent shopper of both companies, I receive digital coupons via email at least once a week that offer either a percentage off an order or free shipping. It is however rare to find promotional offers in main line stores such as Nike's or Under Armour's flagship location because heavy promotions may increase sales in the short term but it'll dilute the brand image in the long term. Both Nike and Under Armour both operate in the same industry which means their promotional periods are most often in sync. When the spring season begins, both retailers will begin to discount their winter wear such as long tights and heavier fabric sweatshirts and replace it with more weather appropriate clothing. This is why many times you see products from both companies show up at discounters such as TJMaxx or Marshalls around this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Comanche Indians Essay COMANCHE INDIANS The Comanches, exceptional horsemen who dominated the Southern Plains, played a prominent role in Texas frontier history throughout much of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. • 7. Analysis Of The Legendary Legend Really it depends on belief and religion. For example, if you're a Christian, then the belief is that the prickly leaves represent the crown of thorns Jesus wore when he was crucified. The berries represent the blood that he shed, because of the crown of thorns. I know that's the right one but since I like to make up my own stuff that's not how it goes in this story. Once there was a girl and a boy. The boy's name so Chucky. The girl's name I'd Carrie. They were extremely good friends. More than friends, best friends. One day Chucky and Carrie were out in the woods. The woods of The Legendary Legend. There was an old legend about these woods. A boy and girl, Chucky and Carrie were best friends, they went to the woods every day after school. It's supposed to be haunted by some weird evil ghost. Chucky and Carrie didn't believe it though. They wanted some proof. That's why they went there everyday after school, for some proof. There was something that Chucky was always hiding from Carrie, even in the beginning. He had strong feelings for Carrie, that Carrie never knew about. Carrie didn't quite feel the same way. She had a secret boyfriend that Chucky didn't know about. After a while, they sat alone on a rock to rest after about a five mile hike or so. "Hey, Carrie," Chucky says in a nervous voice, "I've been thinkin..." "Wow, hold up Chuck. Kids are all little bastards; they don't have any kind of social tact or etiquette." He reckons. (Lim D. 1998) Result of the said poll serves as a good evidence that South Park has a certain level of impact on the children. If kids vote for a specific character, it means that they can relate to that character in one way or another, and children tend to imitate what they see or like. Is Eric Cartman a good influence for children? I don't think so. Not only people who fight for safety of children reacted on the show's content. Religious people also had something to say about specific episodes of the show. Some fluently, some only a singular note or, maybe a song. This all started out in sixth grade when I could not decide what instrument was best for me. I started out my first two months of middle school by switching from instrument to instrument. I began with the oboe, and a week later, I changed to percussion. Only then, did I attempt to play all of the brass instruments–– and I mean all of them–– trumpet, french horn, tuba, trombone, and baritone, you name it, and I've probably played it. Next, I moved on to all of the woodwinds, flutes, clarinets, and all of the saxophones. Again, I cycled through the percussion instruments once again. Finally, I decided that I would rather play notes on a staff than beat something with a stick. I was forced, by my very irritated band teacher, to pick one of the two that I was better at, the alto saxophone or the trumpet. Two completely different musical instruments in two completely different musical families. Of course, as an indecisive twelve year old, I could not pick. Mr. Deneen, a woodwind player himself, chose the alto saxophone. The alto saxophone has stuck with me for many years–– six, to be exact. My sixth grade year I became really good at playing my saxophone. I went from indecisiveness to first chair in a matter of weeks. In fact, I was so talented that I was moved up into the eighth grade band as a sixth grader. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He started on the clarinet, but eventually became one of the first performers to adopt the soprano saxophone as a main instrument, as well as one of the first to improvise with the swing style of jazz. In addition, he was one of the first artists to record using a multitrack which was a way of recording where you would play back the track from one instrument while you recorded with another instrument and continued this process until you had all of the instruments you wanted. These strides helped Bechet stand out from other musicians as he progressed through his career. Bechet grew up in a musical household and toured with popular bands from a young age. He enters with a strong musical foundation provided by his father and community and a vision of what he thinks music can be. Horatio Parker, Ives's composition professor unashamedly informs Ives that his vision of music seems blurry, perhaps even nauseating, to the astute, cultured musician. Ives quickly develops anger towards Parker's traditional tutelage and rarely recognizes the positive effects Parker has on his compositions. American composers, like William Billings, were able to write, for the most part, free from existing patterns. It wasn't until the mid 1800s that word came from Europe about these high–art composers, perhaps scaring these once–free New World composers. From then on, the trend of aspiring American composers was to make the pilgrimage to Europe for training. Composers such as George Chadwick were some of the first to make the trip. Chadwick describes his studies abroad as having to harmonize Bach chorales for four years . Correct voice leading and harmony was probably most accurate when confused with that of Bach. This type of analysis and composition was brought back as a trend, just as one might bring back the latest European fashion from Milan. Even with composers writing one hundred years prior to the Second New England School, American music was still in its infancy, often turning to the far more advanced European model for guidance. I would imagine this to be similar to wanting to be taught how to hold chopsticks from someone directly from Japan as opposed to someone from Uruguay, even though the person from Uruguay may have better form that the person from Japan. • 26. The Television Show South Park The difference between the intended meaning of media texts and what the audience actually perceives can be shockingly different. Producers of media can do everything possible to force audiences to experience their work in the way they want them to, but in the end they still take away many different meanings even within the same audience. Stuart Hall outlines this in his encoding and decoding model. One of the most apparent examples of this is the television show South Park. The television show South Park is a media text with the producers' preferred meaning of being decoded as joke or as being satire, but many audience members take an oppositional stance of taking it seriously. This is clear from the examples of controversy when South Park aired episodes focused on Scientology, red–headed people, and Islam. Through these examples it is demonstrated that the producers of media have less power compared to the audience in determining the meaning of media. In Hall's encoding and decoding model he argues that encoding and decoding the meaning of media is not a single–sided process but one shared by both the producers and the audience. The producers encode their preferred meaning into the media using frameworks of knowledge, relations of production, and technical infrastructure (Hall, 1997). Frameworks of knowledge are the producers' beliefs and what they assume about the audience's beliefs. Relations of production are the needs of the financial side of the industry. Technical ... Since Teuber acknowledged that Dudley was the captain of the ship, it might also be the reason of why all decisions were made by Dudley. He might have felt himself responsible for men's life and tried to save as much as he could, by sacrificing one. One of the details Teuber mentioned was that the rest of seamen were rescued by a German boat, called "Montezuma", which was heading home from South America. As soon as they delivered men to Falmouth and started questioning them, it was clear that they have committed a crime. However, Brook's name wasn't mentioned as one of the prisoners throughout the story. And Teuber reveals the reason, saying:"The upright Dudley immediately insisted that he was the ringleader and that Brooks was completely innocent" (people.brandeis.edu). Shaking his head and tsk–tsk–tsking his tongue at her, Logan waved the waiter over for two coffees, to stay. "Not a stranger stranger, and I can take care of myself, thank you." Tapping her fingers on the table, she couldn't help but want Logan Echolls to disappear. From here specifically, from life in general; Earth as a whole. "What are you doing here, anyway? • 44. Swing Music And The Popularity Of Swing Music Swing band arrangements were in large part composed, often of simple, repeated material, or "riffs," that alternated between contrapuntal lines and intense unison rhythms. Improvisation also had a featured role, and soloists would play while the rest of the band, aside from the rhythm section, dropped out or played arranged background lines. POPULARITY OF SWING MUSIC One explanation for swing music's popularity is that its driving intensity and abandon represented pleasure and freedom in a time when the country was steeped in hard times. The Great Depression caused Americans to suffer, and dancing to swing music was a way for people to forget their worries. Swing music featured a section of three or four trumpeters, three or four trombonist, five saxophonists who often doubled on clarinets, a piano, a bassist instead of a tuba player, a guitarist, and a drummer. During the 1930s, swing came to symbolize joy and ease, the weight of which was reflected in Duke Ellington's piece, "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)." South Park is a notorious paragon tackling censorship boundaries with brilliant wordplay every episode and implementing freedom of speech. For me, the program serves as a weekly litmus test of censorship and freedom of expression. South Park is the brainchild of college friends Trey Parker and Matt Stone. The creative group behind South Park was prepared to endure the repercussions of their comedy. In 200, Muhammad is in a truck to include, but exclude the character from vision. I think they were concerned about the approach of giving in to the ultimatum, and essentially backing down altogether. The boundaries regarding freedom of expression should not adjust to the whims or threats of bullies otherwise known as terrorists. The Redeeming Qualities of South Park Essay The television show South Park is a very controversial show which has been attacked by the media, politicians, parents, the school system, and just about every other social group imaginable. Why is the show so controversial? The reason it is attacked so thoroughly is because of its crude humor and vulgar displays by its characters, as well as the fact that it attacks the thoughts and beliefs of every religion in the world. This vulgarity and intolerance is most notable in the character Cartman, who is extremely offensive in his thoughts, ideas, and actions. Censorship has been around as long as written words have been available to the general public, and whether or not that suppression of ideas is a good idea or not does not change the fact that it is the parent's job to decide what their children will be allowed to read, watch, or play with. Those who criticize the show based on these offenses are either being intolerant themselves, or not paying close attention to the deeper meaning of the show. The show centers around Cartman as the antagonist, who regularly provides insulting views, and Stan and Kyle, whom provide opposing views in order to balance out Cartman's stances. An example of this occurs in the episode "Something This Way Wall Mart Comes." Wal–Mart's overtaking of towns, and the social injustice that occurs with its arrival, is portrayed as a local small business that they boys shop at is closed because of the loss of business that occurs when Wal–Mart comes to their town. • 59. The Music Of Jazz Music Essay Ever since Jelly Roll Morton revolutionised jazz music in the early 1920's, Piano has played a vital role in the development of Jazz music with greats such as Duke Ellington influencing jazz from the start of the swing era (Gioia, 2011). Jazz Pianists were often on the forefront of the ongoing development of jazz music. However, when the bebop era dawned, piano seemed to move into the background, with people like John Coltrane and Miles Davis leading the charge. However, this did not mean the piano disappeared, far from it; Jazz music is a genre that is in constant flux, driven by the players in the music. Often, the most famous jazz musicians were the most innovative and forward thinking players of their respective eras. Musicians hold jazz pedigree and genealogy in high regard, where playing with and learning from the masters that came before was almost a necessity. Some musicians learn from meticulously studying and transcribing solos and compositions performed by previous masters. Pianos ability to play melody and harmony together made it one of the most complex and diverse instruments in the world, especially in jazz music, being able to perform solo with rich musical timbres and complexity. Players such as Bill Evans and Thelonious Monk, whom are discussed in this paper, helped revolutionise jazz and bebop music in their own way, and are some of the best jazz pianists of all time, driving the genre of jazz forever forward (Solomon, 2013). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The birth of Bebop music was built on a similar evolutionary process that has taken over many different art forms since the beginning of human history. There was a yearning for change and a desire to break the binding chains of the standard New Orleans jazz, Dixieland, and Swing music (Aycock, 1997). In the 1940's Dizzy Gillespie and a legion of young and talented musicians went to war against traditional jazz music and forged a new modern landscape of immense record sales, popularity and fame. The creation of Bebop catered to the would–be gods of jazz, because their talent rose to the top. Musical characteristics of Bebop shifted away from simple melody variations and moved towards intense improvisation and difficult harmonic progressions (Horricks, 1984). There was an air of confidence brewing amongst the young innovators and a sense of pride in maintaining their dominance. Dizzy Gillespie said this about the subject, "There were some who couldn't blow at all but would take six or seven choruses to prove it. So on afternoons before a session Thelonious Monk and I began to work out some complex variations on chords and the like, and we used them at night to scare away the no–talent guys (Horricks, 1984, p. 30)." The crucible that bred the Bebop style was New York City and the famous Minton's Playhouse (Aycock, 1997). In Coleman Hawkins "One O'Clock Jump" one can notice the more similarities with swing, compared to "Body and Soul," however, one can still hear a more detailed portrayal. The song has more flow and more beats than swing usually has. Thus, use of more beats is part of the new technique that Coleman Hawkins used. The use of the new techniques shows how one can see modernism in "One O'Clock Jump." However, due to the similarities to swing one would not necessary have to see this song of Hawkins as part of bebop or modernism. Another song of Hawkins that not necessary has to be seen as modernism is "Every Man For Himself." In "Every Man For Himself" there is again a faster pace. While one could still call it swing one could say how the faster pacing made it part of modernism.
