The International Consortium for Agile (ICAgile) exists to support education in the Agile space. Working with
experts from around the world, ICAgile is creating an education roadmap (below) for all specialities involved
in Agile development.
The ICAgile road map offers three
certifications. There are:
1. Certified ICAgile Professional - this can
be achieved after attending Software
Education's Agile Fundamentals course.
2. The Expert Certification - this is accessible
after training and assessment in one of
the five ICAgile speciality tracks.
3. Master Agilist Certification - this is only
achievable after three of the five speciality
tracks have been completed.
• Software Education has worked with ICAgile
founders Alistair Cockburn and Dennis Stevens, who
have both presented at our conferences.
• Our Agile Practice Lead, Shane Hastie, is working
with ICAgile to define the learning objectives for the
Business Analysis and Value Management streams.
• Our Software Testing Practice Lead, Sharon Robson,
was one of the team who defined the learning
objectives for the ICAgile Testing Pathway.
• Having an active involvement, Software Education

Here is what we like about ICAgile:
When Suncorp Group decided to go Agile in
order to deliver business value faster, cheaper
and with lower risk, the Group found a gap in
what the market was offering in terms of Agile
learning and development. While there were
some technical courses available, these were
not aligned or integrated in any way.
Recognising that learning and development
was a vital factor in ensuring the successful
adoption of Agile within the organisation,
Suncorp invested in developing an integrated
training curriculum covering the whole
spectrum, utilising the best brains and experts
in the field. The Suncorp rollout commenced in
2008 and by the end of 2009 over 3000 staff
within Suncorp had been trained.
Software Education was chosen by Suncorp
as one of the initial delivery partners to train
employees and soon became the primary
partner for delivering the Group’s Agile training.
This included internal training at Suncorp as
well as a comprehensive curriculum to the
wider community.
Last year, Software Education became an
accredited training organisation with the
International Consortium for Agile – ICAgile
(www.icagile.com). ICAgile provides a similar
comprehensive approach to integrated Agile
learning objectives across the software
development lifecycle.
Software Education is now taking a leading
position not just locally, but internationally,
with developing ICAgile accredited
courses. These new Agile courses not only
continue to provide Suncorp staff with an
integrated Agile curriculum but also provide
international recognition of learning objectives
and certification through ICAgile. Agile
Fundamentals, Agile Facilitation and Agile
Coaching are all ICAgile Accredited courses.
Software Education also plans to release
Agile Project Management, Agile Software
Design and Programming and Agile Testing as
accredited courses in 2013.
Today, Suncorp staff continue to attend Agile
training with Software Education through its
comprehensive public course schedule which
provides consistent quality, flexibility and
availability across Australia and New Zealand.

AGILE FACILITATION and Iteration Management (3 DAYS)
ICAgile Accredited
This course provides an experiential and theoretical
understanding of how to facilitate effective workshops and how to
help each member to contribute to the team to achieve maximum
effectiveness, while identifying potential pitfalls and how to avoid
or address them.
AGILE CONCEPT PHASE START ME UP (2 DAYS)
This course covers the first phase of an initiative, the “concept”
phase or “Agile business case”. You will take a case study through
each of the seven concept steps – discover, desired outcomes,
high level features, invention, high level design, high level
estimates, plan and proposal – looking at the deliverables from
each step and the techniques used to produce them.
Introduction to Agile (1 day)
This course is an experiential journey through the Agile approach,
from start to finish, with a focus on the Agile values, principles,
key practices and process. Participants will form teams and play
different roles as they tackle fictitious projects (using a range of
tools) from concept to final deployment. This course will enable
participants to get hands-on experience of what it means to work
and think in an Agile manner.
