  1. 1. Instruction for installing the VirtualBox and Vagrant For Linux
  2. 2. Introduction This tutorial will show you how to install VirtualBox and Vagrant, which will allow you to use virtual machines for data science
  3. 3. Hardware and Software requirements You should use a machine with the following minimum hardware requirements: ➔ 3.5 GB free disk space ➔ 2.5 GB (4+ GB preferred) ➔ Any recent Intel or AMD multicore processor should be sufficient. We support the following Operating Systems: ➔ 64-bit (preferred) Linux (CentOS 6 or later, or Ubuntu 14.04 or later) ➔ 32-bit Linux (CentOS 6 or later, or Ubuntu 14.04 or later)
  4. 4. First step: Installing the VirtualBox Debian-based Linux distributions. Add the following line to your /etc/apt/sources.list: “deb http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian xenial contrib” According to your distribution, replace 'xenial' by 'vivid', 'utopic', 'trusty', 'raring', 'quantal', 'precise', 'lucid', 'jessie', 'wheezy', or 'squeeze'. To do this, open Terminal and run next commands: 1. gedit /ets/apt/sources.list add to openedfile: deb http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian trusty contrib 2. wget -q http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian/oracle_vbox.asc -O- | sudo apt-key add - 3. sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install virtualbox-#Version #Version - choose available version, for example 5.0, such as sudo apt-get install virtualbox-5.0
  5. 5. Second step: Installing Vagrant Open Terminal and run next commands: ➔ download package wget https://releases.hashicorp.com/vagrant/1.8.1/vagrant_1.8.1_x86_64.deb ➔ move to download folder sudo dpkg -i vagrant_1.8.1_x86_64.deb
