2. What is Marxism?
Means the political and
economical theories of
Karl Marx and Friedrich
Engels.
In his famous work “Das
Capital” in this he is talk
about critical analysis of
political economy and
capitalist mode of the
production.
It is published in 1867. They
both were German
philosopher.
3. Four Goals of the Marxism:
Marxism builds on a
materialist understanding
of societal
development, according to
Marxist analysis class
conflict within capitalism
and socialism.
In Marxism Marx talk about
socialism, capitalism, cultu
re, hegemony etc..
Marxism sees culture as the
masking of real social and
economic conditions.
4. Classes and class conflict:
Marx define two classes in
his work, 1.) High class
known as capitalist and 2.)
working class.
Marxists stress that
social analysis should focus
on class structure and
relations.
5. Capitalism:
Marx called the "organic
composition" of capital and
“immiseration" of the
proletariat means worker.
“In bourgeois society capital is
independent and has
individuality, while the living
person is dependent and has no
individuality.”
Karl Marx
6. Socialism:
“Christian Socialism is but the
holy water with which the priest
consecrates the heart-burnings
of the aristocrat.”
-- KARL MARX, The
Communist Manifesto
7. Other views:
Ideology of Lousis
Althusser constructs the
individuals as subjects of
the system.
It is a system of
representations (
images, myths, ideas…)
Ideology is sustained
and reproduced through
cultural forms.
According to Antonio
Gramsci’s view; the
institutional and
cultural bases on
ideology.
Any form:
political, propaganda, fo
lklore, and popular
songs.
He develops the concept
of hegemony.
“The meaning of peace is
the absence of
opposition to socialism.”
Karl Marx
8. Money and power Connected with hegemony. Generally hegemony
means leadership, or dominance. In Marxism marxists talk about that
type of hegemony.
I do not like money, money is the reason we fight. --- Karl Marx
