The Contemporary World: The Globalization of World Politics
Media evaluation part 4
1. “How did you use media
technologies in the research &
planning, construction and
evaluation stages of your
coursework?”
2. When researching my film trailers genre, it is
important that the internet would be a
massive part of this process. I used the
search engines ‘imdb.com’, ‘Wikipedia.com’,
‘Google.com’ and especially ‘Youtube.com’
to research the Horror Genre that I was going
to use for my trailer. IMDB enabled me to
research the specifics about a film, such as
the Cast and Director.
Google is so accessible that I was able
to search for anything. I was able to
look at images, videos or different
texts that helped me research my
Horror Genre.
You Tube was really brilliant for looking at
videos and trailers on Horror films but also
after watching a few trailers you learn the
structure of them very easily and are able to
copy the structure.
3. On Blogger I was able to present the
researching stage in many different
formats. Such as SlideShare to
present PowerPoint Presentations,
Prezzi to present my target audience
ideas, screen shots of my computer,
mind maps I made on paper and
inserting videos from my ‘Pow Toon’
presentztion which is another way
to present ideas instead of just using
Power Point and Prezzi. I also used
Scribd.com to convert my power
points onto my blog and I used
‘Animato.’
4. Planning
When planning my film trailer, Blogger was a very efficient way of presenting
my work as you can have lots of different pieces of work displayed, such as
videos and graphics which you couldn’t present on paper. It also stores all your
work in one place, so if I needed to access something I could simply log on and
it would all be there. Planning the specifics of my film trailer would mostly be
in writing simply and panning out my synopsis of my story for the film as well
as the script, but pictures also played a big part in this stage. I used my phone
to take photos of my storyboard to send into my computer so I could display it
on my blog, as well as using the images on the storyboard to create an
Animatic. I also took screen shots of things on Microsoft Word, such as the
Questionnaire, Risk Assessment and Location Shots. As well as this I also took
pictures of my cast of wrote under the pictures who they were playing and
their ages.
5. Construction
When I was filming my media product I used a Canon 5d mark II as it was my
camera and having used it many times before I knew that I would be
comfortable filming with the camera. I also took the photos for my ancillary
tasks with this camera. I found that the camera was excellent for filming as
the quality was very good and I found that it enhanced my still shots and
photos. As well as using my camera I also used the school video camera and I
also used a steadicam to film some of my earlier shots driving up to the
house. I decided not to use the school video camera throughout the day of
filming because I felt it wasn’t as good quality but it was useful to convert
some of my videos onto my MacBook Pro because the SD card fitted straight
into my computer.
6. Example
For the shot when we were driving along the driveway
towards the house. I used a tripod which put out side the
window of the car while we drive towards the House and
then I sped up the footage on Premier Pro. I was a bit
apprehensive and scared to film using this apparatus due
to the fact that I had never used one before and I was
also placing it out of a window of a driving car. However, I
decided to give it a try because I had a new one which
was much more stable and I was able to walk and even
run with it without any fears of the camera dropping and
breaking.
7. During the construction of my Horror Trailer, ‘Are You
Afraid Yet?’ I used Premiere Pro the most as it is the
best editing software I have ever used, and it had
great reviews. I was able to place my clips In the order
that I wanted very easily as well as creating very cool
effects such as slow motion, quickening footage,
creating layers and adding color to my clips.
I used premiere pro to edit my media Horror
Trailer, ‘Are You Afraid Yet?’ This took a while
to get to grips with as it a very complex piece
of editing software but once I got to grips with
it by watching a lot of Tutorials I started and
have developed and learn new skills in
premiere pro, such as, Stabilising footage,
using slow motion or speeding clips up,
creating flashes and changing the colours of
the footage.
8. Horror Trailer Poster and Magazine Cover
For both my Horror Trailer Poster and
Magazine Cover I used the software, ‘In
Design CC.’ This is designed for creating
documents and magazine cover or posters
so this made it fairly easier because it gave
you the layout of a A4 piece of paper and
then you could create your magazine cover
or poster by using the layout as a guideline.
I also used the editing software for
photos, ‘Photoshop’ this helped
me a lot when editing the main
image of Mia who played ‘The
Ghost’ in my horror trailer
because I had to cut off some of
her head in order for her to
obstruct the title ‘REEL’ without
‘Photoshop’ I wouldn’t of been
able to do that and the magazine
wouldn’t of looked so professional
than it is.
