Creative people are often highly sensitive. Psychologist Elaine Aron, PhD summarizes the personality trait of high sensitivity (sensory processing sensitivity): “Your brain processes information and reflects on it more deeply.” She thinks all Highly Sensitive People (HSPs) “are creative, by definition.” In this short overview, I include quotes from my interviews with other psychologists: Cheryl Arutt and Ted Zeff.

6. Actor Jessica Chastain ("Zero Dark

“I’m very sensitive in real life. I cannot not
cry if someone around me is crying…even if
it’s not appropriate. I have that thing in me, a
weakness or sensitivity.”
Elaine Aron declares that HSPs (highly sensitive persons)
“do cry more readily than others. It was a strong finding
in our research."

Both creativity and being sensitive are on a spectrum – a range of
different levels. And simply being sensitive does not mean you
are necessarily productively creative or an artist.
