The disciples rebuked the people, but Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.’And he laid his hands on them and went away” (Matthew 19:13- 15). Here Jesus defines what is innocent, pure, and good. The verses following the above passage were consulted when a young man came to the “good Teacher.” This man knew who Jesus was and even considered him the source of eternal life (v. 16). He was told he needed to keep several of the Ten Commandments, and to this he replied, “All these I have kept. What do I still lack?” (v. 20). “Jesus said to him, ‘If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.’ When the young man heard this, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions” (vv. 21-22). Both of our audiences went away from Jesus that day. The children departed blessed by the Lord, being of the Kingdom of Heaven. The young man, however, went away sorrowfully from his access to eternal life. We must be like these children in the presence of Jesus, and we will represent the Church and realize eternal life. We will seek and save the lost of this world! When you leave this world, will people be happy they knew you? Happy you helped them know the Kingdom? Will you leave them hope that they will see you again? We are all leaving this world at some point. Will we leave happiness or sadness? One day at the judgment, we will all be given an opportunity to be in the presence of the Lord Jesus. Will you go into eternity blessed, being a part of God’s kingdom, the church? Or will you go into it sorrowfully because you put “stuff” before Jesus’ commands? At the end of the day, it is your choice to… Leave happy or leave sad.
