MISSION MISSIONARIES
JCA – Alex Coggins – Bible Teacher
Jefferson Christian Academy exist to provide a quality
education in a Christian environment. According to
Luke 2:52 “…Jesus increased in wisdom, stature, and
in favor with God and man.” Their goal is to help
each student develop spiritually, mentally, physically,
and socially in accordance with this Biblical pattern.
The purpose of Jefferson Christian Academy is to provide and maintain a safe Christian
environment, one that promotes spiritual and academic growth. It is a Bible based school
that focuses on the whole child; spirit, mind body and a servant’s heart. The goal is to
prepare the students for life and eternity with each day centered on Biblical truth and its
application to everyday life.
Alex is the Bible Teacher at JCA. He graduated from JCA in 2012. Attended Faulkner
and graduated in 2016. Worked as accountant 4 years with the Housing Authority,
Birmingham District.
Before Alex took the job as Bible Teacher, there would be a different teacher each 9 weeks
and before that up to 2 years. He saw the importance for a consistent Bible Teacher that
would be there and teach and develop relationships with the students over the years.
Alex is the Bible Teacher for the 6th
through 12th
grades. He started as Bible Teacher 3
years ago when Covid was everywhere. This created a unique situation as half of his
students were in school and half was online. His is responsible for teaching daily. Each
class is 52 minutes which gives him time to teach and develop relationships with the
students.
His responsibilities are teaching Bible, scheduling Chapel Monday thru Thursday, retreat
at Camp Mayotte, and Spiritual Day.
Each year Alex does a survey get the makeup of the students religious back ground. This
year there are 102 students, 31 are Church of Christ, 56 are other and 15 do not attend
Church. JCA is the only Bible knowledge and teaching that many get in their life. The
students get more Bible lessons at JCA than they get anywhere else.
JCA is a safe environment to study and dig deeper in relationship with God. There is one
student that has started attending a Church of Christ and came to Maywood Camp, wanted
a Bible study and was baptized into Christ. This student is still at JCA and growing
spiritually each day.
Jefferson Christian Academy is a mission field where the Bible is being taught to the
students at their grade level and giving them the chance to apply these lessons to their
daily life.
Alex plans to be there for many years and continue teaching and building relationships
with each student to guide them toward becoming a Christian.
