2. Problem Statement:
Which Mouthwash Works
Best To Clean Teeth?
Hypothesis:
If Crest and Listerine are tested by
which mouthwash cleans teeth the
most, Then Crest will clean more
than Listerine.

3. Materials:
• 24Egg Shells
•27Cups
•24Labels
•Foods that stain
•Timer
•Tweezers
•Crest Pro-Health Mouthwash
•Listerine Total-Care
•24Zip-lock Bag
•Microwave

4. Procedures:
1. Label one section of 8 cups coffee
2. Label the second section Gatorade
3. Label the third Soy Sauce
4. Fill them all with 1 egg for each cup
5. Warm the gatorade, soy sauce and coffee for 45 seconds each
6. Pour it into the corresponding cups
7. Time it for 48 hours
8. Get the tweezers and take out each egg and put it in its own zip-lock bag
(labeled)
9. Record the shade of the egg
10. Place each egg into new cups filled with Crest and Listerine
11. Put a plastic top over the cup and shake each one for a minute
12. Get tweezers and take out each egg and put them into their corresponding zip-
lock bags
13. Record the shades of the egg and compare it to the shade before

5. Variables:
Control Group- Amount of liquid in each cup, amount
of time in the microwave, same type of cups, same
size eggs, same type of zip-lock bags, amount of
eggs, the amount of mouthwash, and the time in the
liquid.
Expirimental Group- The two sections of mouthwash
filled with eggs.
Independent Variable- The shade of the egg.
Dependent Variable- The difference of the egg shade
before and after; the more clean the egg is after
shaking it with mouthwash.
Constants- Time in liquid, amount of
mouthwash, number of eggs, type of zip-lock
bags, same size eggs,
same type of cups, time in mouthwash, amount of
liquid in each cup.

8. Conclusion:
The mouthwash that cleans teeth the most is
Crest. It got a 6 for coffee, a 1 for gatorade
and a 6 for soysauce, according to the teeth
whitening scale. Whitest- 1, Darkest- 10.
Listerine got a 9 for coffee, 2 for gatorade and
a 6 for soysauce while originally the shades of
white were a 9, a 6 and a 10.

9. Abstract:
I wanted to do my project originaly about which
toothpaste works best to clean teeth, but mouthwash
seemed more challenging because not many people use
it, and by doing this science project it will show them
how important it is. If someone wanted to re-create this
science project, it wouldnt be such a problem because all
of the materials needed are everyday household items.
Out of all the different types of mouthwash I could
choose, I choose Crest and Listerine because they are the
top two brands of mouthwash in the market and are
competing against who's brand is better.
