4. REPORTS
These are documents that are prepared to pass along
information to others . A report is compiled after an
engineers visits a site and writes a Report of his
findings on the site, and writes about the advantages
and the disadvantages of his observations- it could be
on constructing a dam or setting up a factory.

5. Reviews
 These are writings which gives your opinion about or reaction
to an event or performance. The review can be written on a
dance recital. This appears in the newspaper for the general to
read and appreciate the performance of a great artist. There
are book reviews too, this is a type of review , where the skill
of a writer is explained in detail, encouraging the readers to
read suggested books, after they have appreciated the review
that they have read. Book review by Namita Devaidayal
frequently appears in the Times of India on every Sunday.

6. ESSAYS
 Essays are pieces of creative writing around a topic ,
idea or a theme. Before the advent of soft skill
training programs, your ability of learning the English
language was judged on your ability of writing a good
essay. School days were synonymous with essay
writing. The better you could paint the words, the
better the essay appeared..Remember the essay
that you wrote in school days.

7. STORIES
 these are writing that tell about real or imaginary
happenings. In non-fiction you can relate to facts and
findings. In fiction , you can create out of blue it is
described as a ” figment of your imagination” . this
type of writing is exciting, and keep you sitting on the
edge till you turn to the last page.. J.K Rowling’s
Harry potter and the deathly hallows is a work of
fiction.

8. PLAYS
 This type o f writing are stories told
through dialogue, action and divided in to
act-1, act- 2, to hold the attention to the
reader.
 Hamlet is the play written by
Shakespeare. What the characters in the
play say and do move the action along.

9. POEMS
 Poems are lines written with rhyming word at the end
of each sentence this can be thoughts conveyed in
lyrical manner and special attention is given to the
sound of words.
 “The nightingale” is the famous poem written by
Sarojini Naido.
