2. Egg
The egg of a
monarch
butterfly is only
the size of a
pinhead!

3. Larva
The monarch
goes from an
egg to a
larva in
about one
month. They
eat a lot of
milkweed, so
they shed
their 5 times
before the
next stage!

4. Pupa
They then
transform into pupa
also known as
chrysalis.
The chrysalis has
gold markings and
is a jade color. It
then becomes clear
right before it
emerges…. Who is
ready to see that?

5. ~Adult~
The wings are
folded in the
chrysalis and they
have to pump their
wings in order to
emerge.

6. And then we start all over again…
Adult monarchs
live for 2-5
weeks before
they then lay
only one egg on
a milkweed
plant… and that
is where the
cycle starts all
over…
