Dating back to the beginning of times people have always been looked at different depending on
the color of their skin or what your religion, race, or beliefs may be. It is in our human nature to
not like people for certain things that they are. Many will argue that in this day in age we are no
longer at a race war but how can you be so sure when you actually open your eyes and see reality.
Rapper Kanye West once said "racism is still alive, they just be concealing it" and these words are

This movement was lead for over 10 years before blacks finally start getting rights in 1968. The
year now is 2014 and with the Civil Right Movement being less than 60 years ago the generation
who lived this is still alive. Most people still remember and hate that they once had for the
opposing race and that is something that will never be forgotten and this generation will grow to
teach their kids that and it will be an endless cycle of racism. The Klu Klux Klan is a group of white
supremacist that believe that there race is supreme and that the African American race should be

begun taken action with laws against immigrants. Many claim that these newfound laws are racism

issue that matters to me. It is an issue of which my people have suffered from, racism. What exactly
is racism if I may ask? To me it is very clear, Racism is when you look at the color of my skin and

How Is Racism Still Relevant Today
Racism across the world has always been a problem that will never fade. From the mass genocide
of Judaism, to the riots and protests for black lives, racism is a huge cause of separation within
our countries and societies. Sometimes it may seem like there will never be an end to racism,
which there probably never will be, but there can be a change of ways. Racism is a mindset, and if
people start to teach the younger generations about accepting and loving others for who they are,
the world can slowly become a better, more accepting place. Not one person is born racist; the

It draws lines and separates the human race into being feared by each other, ending with awfully
destructive consequences. War is a perfect example that has many terrifying outcomes. Many
wars were the result of racist ambitions. The most dominant instance where this developed was
during World War 2. Adolf Hitler wanted to kill all Jews because during the times before he was

Once a belief system has been established it is up to the person to choose how close they will

some powerful black leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. strived for peaceful protest, many

Racism has been an ongoing social justice issue for decades, and we seem to always fail to make it
stop. According to Dummett (as cited in Fernando, 1984), racism is the behaviour and attitude that
emerges from our beliefs that certain people are different from us. These differences are mainly
based on race, where people come from, physical characteristics, such as colour and hair type or
behavioural characteristics, and that people categorized must be treated differently based on
their needs, capabilities and rights. Usually there is one dominant and superior group and a few
inferior groups (Dummett, as cited in Fernando, 1984). Coates and Morrison (2011) suggests that
what we distinguish as real and true may not always be real and that things may not always be as
it seems. Coates and Morrison (2011) also states that we live in a racial matrix, where we have

perceived as the norm in society and this perception of reality is not easy to get rid of. There are

on the news, we hear stories about how African American males and women are being shot and

racial oppression as well as Martin Luther King Jr. who was assassinated in 1968. Both of these two
