1. Problem and Solution
Juan’s school is having tryouts for the lead in the school play. Juan
loves to act and really wants the lead part. The school is even doing a play
that Juan really loves. Yet, Juan gets really nervous when speaking in front
of a lot of people. He feels uncomfortable standing in front of people and he
even gets scared when answering a question in class.
Juan went home and asked his mother about his problem. She
suggested that he practice his lines in front of the family to help him feel
more comfortable. After a few nights of practicing in front of his parents
and his sister, Juan still didn’t feel better about performing in front of his
classmates.
Next, Juan’s teacher suggested that he try to answer more questions in
class even though he was scared. At first it was really hard, but after a few
days Juan started to feel a little better about speaking in front of his
classmates. Yet, Juan was still scared to act in front of the whole school.
On the day of the tryouts, Juan decided to try an idea of this own. He
decided to look at only one person in the audience. During his audition, he
looked at his favorite teacher and pretended like she was the only person in
the room. Amazingly, Juan felt less nervous and performed his best.
The next morning at school the announcements came on. The
principal announced the parts for the play. He said Juan’s name for the lead
part in the play! Juan was very proud of himself for doing something so
difficult.
