6. 2000 “AromaJet.com announces Fragrance Synthesis Over the Internet” This company mainly was interfacing with perfume manufacturers. *6 *6b
7. 2004 “The Internet Comes to Its Senses” title of article on technology blog*7 “ Cable company Telewest Broadband is currently testing new technology that brings a third sense to the internet, allowing you to send and receive any number of weird and wonderful aromas whilst surfing the net.”*7 I cannot find anything further on this technology and learned through Wikipedia that the company was bought out by another one* 8 *8b
8. 2004 Linda Buck and Dr. Richard Axel awarded Nobel Peace Prize for “groundbreaking paper that shed light on olfactory receptors and how the brain interprets smell. *9 “Odor Barcode” …”the combined diversity of the receptors themselves and the molecular features they capture generate a huge breadth of signals fed into the brain which form a unique odour "fingerprint" by which mammalian brains recognise at least 10,000 individual odour molecules…."It gave rise to the combinatorial odour code, a bit like a supermarket barcode unique to each item,”. *9 This could pave the way for digital scents. *9b
9. 2006 “NTT Com offers Fragrance Communication system to incorporate scent emissions*10 into movie “ The New World” starring actor Colin Farrell*11.
