1. St Ives Tourism Photography- Friday 31st May 2013
“What Am I Photographing?”
My job is to take photos who St Ives, Cambridgeshire, to help with the tourism of the area.
As St Ives is a naturally very beautiful especially around the Great Ouse River, I think that
my main focus will be on the nature economic tourism in the area. I will try to take photos
to highlight the attraction to the town centre because of the local shops and Riverside Tea
Rooms.
“Where Am I Going?”
To do this I will go to the thicket which is a local hotspot for walking and bike rides as it
follows a path along the river that leads to a country pub in Houghton. The thicket has also
just been involved in a £300,000 improvement to create a more suitable and stable
pathways.
Another area which I want to shoot is the
town bridge, as it is a great historical part
of St Ives. The bridge has long been a
huge part in drawing in tourists to St Ives
because of its unique charm. Also along
the Riverbank just next to the bridge there
are benches, ice cream stands and tea
rooms which all look along the river and
are great on warm summer days. These
are all aspects that I hope to capture
during my shoot because they bring all of
the towns element together.

2. Lastly I will shoot in Hemingford Meadow, this area is very close to the town centre and is
also located all along the Great Ouse River. This area is really popular with local people
for dog walks and picnics in the warmer weather. The meadow in the summer is spread
with hundreds of beautiful wild flowers and other plants with make it very colorful. There
are also docks and beaches located along the riverbank for dogs to go swimming and
people to fish in the fishing season. At this time of year (May/June) the meadow is covered
in buttercups with creates this yellow glow to the field.
“Are There Any Risks Or Dangers?”
When being on location anywhere there are risks and precautions that need to be taken to
stay safe. In order to make sure that I thought of all of these and the precautions that
needed to be taken in order to avoid certain disasters I completed a risk assessment
document.

3. Potential Risk Factor
out of 10
How to prevent this risk Risk factor
afterwards
Traffic (the risk is low on the
actual location as traffic is not
aloud in these certain places.
However it the walking
between places that are
dangerous)
8/10 Make sure I use all traffic
crossings and stay on the
paths. Always be aware of
roads and passing traffic.
5/10
River (Falling in or slipping
over on the River bed)
9/10 Always be aware of the
river and the ground
stability. Also I will try to
stay away from the actual
side of the river as much
as possible.
4/10
Public (Getting in peoples way
or cyclists getting in the way
out shots)
4/10 Make sure that I am not
obstructing or blocking
any public pathway.
Always stay on the edge
of the path rather than in
the middle.
1/10
Sun Exposure (as it is
planning on being sunny and
20 degrees and I am planning
on being out for the hottest
part of the day)
6/10 Wear suncream,
sunglasses and a hat to
reduce the exposure. Stay
in the shade for a much
time in-between shots as
possible. Lastly I plan on
taking and drinking plenty
of water whist out
shooting
3/10
Being alone in large open
spaces. (location 2 & 3).
5/10 I have now planned to
bring a friend along with
me to help assist me. This
will help me with all other
aspects as its another pair
of eyes helping us keep
out of peoples ways. We
will both also have our
phones and will be
keeping other updated on
our whereabouts as we
move from place to place.
