Ayodhya Temple saw its first Big Navratri Festival!
Romans 1f: So you think you can judge
1. Romans 1:22-23 Professing themselves to be wise,
they became fools, And changed the glory of the
uncorruptible God into an image made like to
corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed
beasts, and creeping things.
1
They resent the very idea of an all-powerful
God, Who created them, is wiser than they are
and has power over them.
They create false gods that are more to their liking.
2. 24-25 Wherefore God also gave them up to unclean-
ness through the lusts of their own hearts, to
dishonor their own bodies between themselves:
Who changed the Truth of God into a lie, and
worshipped and served the creature more than the
Creator, Who is blessed for ever. Amen.
2
To worship and serve self -- created being --
is to worship and serve a fool.
In trying to honor ourselves as gods, we
dishonor ourselves and reveal our foolishness.
3. "God gave them up"
3
When people determine to go their own way,
God lets them go,
And reap the fruit of their way.
Man's way is always downhill into moral depravity.
Man's way is to worship and serve himself, not God.
When people seek their own pleasure,
they dishonor themselves.
5. Question 1: What is the chief end of man?
Answer: Man’s chief end is to glorify God,
and to enjoy Him for ever.
A Catechism with Proofs: from the Assembly's Shorter Catechism, and the Baptist Catechism.
5
When we live to glorify God and enjoy an
intimate relationship with Him,
We are blessed.
6. 24Wherefore God also gave them up to
uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts,
to dishonor their own bodies between themselves:
6
Are the first and most obvious way in which
men and women dishonor themselves.
Pornography, fornication, adultery, homosexuality
7. 26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile
affections: for even their women did change the
natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural
use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward
another; men with men working that which is
unseemly, and receiving in themselves that
recompence of their error which was meet.
7
Homosexuals call themselves gay, but they're not.
Misery, disease, addictions, and such things are the
suitable recompense of their sin.
8. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in
their knowledge, God gave them over to a
reprobate mind, to do those things which are not
convenient;
8
Reprobate mind = worthless, rejected by God.
Not convenient -- not fit to do.
God does not force Himself upon anyone.
If you don't like God and His Way,
He will let you go your own way.
Man's way is not fit for anything good.
But live that way if you will.
9. Why do so many?
"Not like to retain God in their knowledge."
9
When we acknowledge God as God Almighty,
We can no longer go our own
way, doing our own thing.
Is no longer just a "good book".
It is the Path that we must walk.
10. 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, forni-
cation, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness;
full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity;
whisperers,
10
Unrighteousness = moral wrongness.
They call evil good, and good evil.
Fornication = porneia = any sex except that
between a husband and his wife.
Porneia is Greek from which we get pornography.
Wickedness = evil plots; esp with malice.
11. 11
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, forni-
cation, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness;
full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity;
whisperers,
Covetousness = greed
Maliciousness = evil, wicked malignity
Full of envy = jealousy with ill will.
Murder = to slaughter;
Jesus equated hatred with murder.
12. 12
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, forni-
cation, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness;
full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity;
whisperers,
Debate = contention, strife, quarrelsome
Deceit = a trick or a decoy
Malignity = bad character; through and through
Whisperers = secret slanderers
"I wouldn't want him to know I said this, but …"
13. 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud,
boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to
parents,
13
Backbiters = talkative against --
Haters of God = hateful to and about God,
His Way, and His church.
Despiteful = insulter, injurious, maltreater
Inventors of evil things = Anything bad going
on, it probably started with him.
Disobedient to parents = stubbornly, willfully,
rebelliously disobedient.
14. 31 Without understanding, covenant-breakers,
without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
14
Without understanding =
wickedly unintelligent; a fool.
Covenant-breakers = doesn't keep his word;
breaks promises; breaks contracts.
Without natural affection = hardhearted.
Implacable = trucebreaker;
will never be at peace.
Unmerciful = hard and unforgiving.
15. 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they
which commit such things are worthy of death, not
only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do
them.
15
People know better, but refuse to do better.
If you did not see yourself in this list of sins,
I invite you to study it again and again.
Pagans and Christians alike are found here.
All of these sins are worthy of death. (v32)
16. Romans 2 1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man,
whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou
judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou
that judgest doest the same things.
16
A gossip has no right to judge an addict.
A fornicator has no right to judge a homosexual.
Jesus Christ, the Son of God,
died in my place for my sins.
He did the same for you, if you will accept it.
