Gamifying Conferences and a New Conference Ice Breaker Service
I am launching a new conference ice breaker service which combines interactive entertainment with an innovative social network game development platform called
GameMaki which I experienced at the Serious Games and Social Connect Conference in Singapore recently. This service is designed to add real value to conferences and
larger seminars through the gamification of the traditional welcome reception and the conference itself. During the welcome reception, delegates will be motivated to
introduce themselves to each other and the other conference delegates in a fun way and then encouraged to contribute engaging content via Twitter and/or Facebook to
not only make the conference as memorable and interesting as possible, but also create new relationships and social networks that last beyond the conference period.
The new ice breaker game can be experienced at http://www.facebook.com/ConferenceIceBreakerGame/app_198344946856885 but for more details of the whole service,
please email me at david@davidwortley.com
Gamemaki Social Network Gamification Solution
Gamification is a new buzz word gaining traction for a whole host of applications primarily designed to engage audiences, build brands and influence behaviour. A new
software platform has been launched which uses social networking platforms such as facebook and twitter to encourage relationship building and interaction through
simple challenges that create leader boards and competition in a fun and engaging way, especially suited to conference events.
For more details of the software platform and its use, contact GameMaki at jesslyn@gametize.com or visit www.gamemaki.com
2. Singapore Serious Games and Social Connect 2012 Conference
Philippe De Passorio of Total Immersion
The 1st Serious Gaming and Social Connect 2012 Conference was held recently in Singapore. It brought together an interesting collection of high quality speakers and topics
with over 100 delegates from many difference countries. There was a strong theme of Games for Health Applications, Gamification and Augmented / Mixed Reality
applications.
It was a well organised event with a good cross section of delegates from both industry and academia.
Plans are already in hand for the 2013 conference – for details go to http://www.seriousgamesconference.org/
Caspian Learning and Imaginary Collaboration Video Trailer
Two of Europe’s most established, experienced and respected serious games companies have joined forces to address the demands of creating serious games and
simulations as cost-effectively as possible. Caspian Learning, based in the North east of the UK, are the developers of the Thinking Worlds platform designed to improve
the speed and productivity of serious games development and make serious games development accessible to subject matter experts and learning professionals.
In today’s rapidly changing world, one of the major challenges is to provide training and simulation at the point of need which means that these learning and development
applications increasingly need to be accessible as close as possible to the place and time where the skills will be used. Caspian Learning have had a great deal of success in
military training applications for both the army and the navy.
Imaginary are based in Milan and have substantial experience of effective games-based and technology-enhanced learning and are working with Caspian Learning and
Thinking Worlds not only to develop new serious games applications, but also to offer training and consultancy to companies who want to develop their own serious
games and simulations in house.
A video trailer announcing this collaboration is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQWi5KQkz7M

Finnish 3D Expert Seeking Employment
I have been asked to post details of a Finnish 3D expert who is looking for employment in the industry – his brief resume follows :-
About me in nutshell: My name is Waltteri Reunamo, i just graduated from Satakunta Arts and Crafts Institute (SATAEDU , computer animation / games)
and now I'm looking for a game industry job. Working in, with and on games is my passion and I'd be very excited to work on professional projects within the industry.
My favourite positions would be as Environment Artist or Game Artist working on 3d models and texturing.
The main software I use are: Blender, 3ds Max, ZBrush, Photoshop, Unity, UDK. I can do highpoly and lowpoly game assets and environments.
I know some basic scripting in Unity too and I can also do animations. I also like to work with traditional mediums such as drawing and oil painting.
My best qualities I think are: 3d modeling/sculpting/texturing skills, enthusiasm on anything game related (i like to play games, make games, read and talk about them),
hard working spirit, I'm a fast learner and I'm really fun and relaxed guy to work with! I have wide range of game art skills! I would be willing to relocate pretty much
anywhere if I could get my first game industry job.
My LinkedIn and Portfolio site:
http://fi.linkedin.com/in/waltterireunamo
http://animera.fi/
Before my game studies I studied carpentry and I also studied for a few years classical guitar in a conservatory, but my interest on those slowly faded away.
I wanted something more creative. After starting my game industry studies, bit more than 3 years ago, my enthusiasm on working in game industry hasn't gone anywhere.
I love the likeminded people in the industry i have met and the let's say "restricted freedom" that game art creation is.
Also i like it that working on game art encourages me to work on traditional art skills also, painting, drawing, photography and so on. It's said that the best kind of job is
what doesn't feel work at all, and making game art could be just like that for me.
Fallout series. Fallout 1/2 had the freedom to be who you want to be and do what you want to do way before modern rpg's. And those were packed with the greatest
soundtracks in my opinion. Fallout 3 did a great job delivering the whole fallout feeling once again.
3. Skyrim. Shortly put, it's a game that everytime gives something new to experience. Very inspirational for a game artist like me, the quality and variation of level design and
art assets is breathtaking.
Other series and games that i love: Mass Effect, Gears of War, Halo, Portal 1/2, Red Dead Redemption, GTAIV, SW: KoToR, Alan Wake, and much more!
Well I think there's always need for fast learning, out-of-the-box thinking, hard working individuals like me. I'm really a team player and once people get to know me they
see the humouristic, relaxed person that I am who easily gets exited about all kinds of new things and always aims to deliver the quality work.
