C. Conflict - the
   problem the
   protagonist is having.
   There can be more than one conflict in a
    story.
Protagonist vs.
  1. Himself/Herself - The character has to
    learn something about themselves to solve
    the problem (Internal)
  2. Person/Antagonist character has to
    defeat the “bad guy”
  3. Nature (Volcanoes, meteors, wilderness,
    etc.)
  4. Society (the law, the church, groups of
    people)
  5. Divine (God, destiny, etc.)
Shrek
Shrek vs. Himself –
 Because he’s an ogre,
 Shrek feels that he
 should be alone, with
 no friends.
Shrek vs. Society –
 Lord Farquaad and the
 humans do not want
 Shrek around, because
 he is an ogre. He
 doesn’t belong.
