  1. 4 Vol. 46 March 30, 2021 Number 12 7 LESSONS LEARNED FROM A SOFTBALL GAME Barry Kennedy We are surrounded by lessons everyday if we are willing to look for them. This thought became apparent while my family and I were watching a college softball game. Consider just a few spiritual lesson ideas that came to my mind while watching the game. 1. We must listen to the coach! “He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day” (John 12:48). 2. Teamwork is a must! “We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let every one of us please his neighbor for his good to edification. For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me” (Romans 15:1-3). 3. We need a strong defense! “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, That I might not sin against thee” (Psalm 119:11; see also 1 Peter 5:8). 4. We must keep our eye on the ball! “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13-14; see also Hebrews 12:1-2). 5. Third base (almost) is never good enough! “Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian” (Acts 26:28). 6. Some will lose! “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 7:21; See also 25:41-46). 7. Getting Home is the goal! “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Matthew 16:26). Far too often people fail to see what really matters in life. It may be that some reading this article can’t get past the softball references to see the point. This is nothing new; people missed, and still miss, the point of the parables as well. God expects man to look past the physical and start seeing the spiritual side of life (2 Corinthians 5:7). What spiritual lessons can we learn from the Bible and the world around us? 2. --article continued from page 1-- Bible study will scatter our night. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105). All glory and praise to the Lamb that was slain. How could one not be revived, if he or she truly believes Jesus is the Lamb that was slain? The Bible explicitly states the importance of knowing the Christ. Jesus said, “If ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins” (John 8:24). In the same chapter Jesus said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am” (John 8:58). The fact that Jesus is deity denotes the fact that He is worthy of glory and praise. No other sacrifice could bear all our sins and cleanse every stain. “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” (Heb. 9:14). “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:” (1 Peter 1:18, 19). Do we find ourselves being revived when we hear the message of man’s redemption? Do we not need to be revived on a regular basis? Satan wants Christians to become complacent, lazy, or indifferent. God wants us to be revived! Our worship can be a time to revive and renew our spiritual man within! Are we excited? Are we inviting others to come and hear the Gospel message (Romans 1:16)? Let’s pray for our Lord to “revive us again!” ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jr. Youth Activity The youth in grades 6th and under are invited to the multipurpose room on Saturday, Apr. 3 from 10:00-11:30 a.m. Each child should bring a basket and 12 plastic eggs. Also, please sign the sheet on the youth bulletin board across from the ladies’ bathroom if you plan to attend so we can prepare for lunch. Thank You Note Dear East Main family, Sandra and I have been so grateful for all the cards, calls, food and especially the prayers during my cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatments. To those who may not already know, my pet scan last week showed no more cancer, and we know that all those prayers offered on our behalf have been heard. I will continue to complete my treatments as a preventative measure, but hopefully they won’t be as hard on me physically as the previous two. Please continue to pray for strength for me, as well as for Sandra, as she continues to be my primary caregiver. We love you all and look forward to worshipping with all of you again soon.
