  1. 1. 4 Hugh Vol. 43 July 24, 2018 Number 29 “Oh Give Me A Home” By Barry Kennedy There are very few people who do not know the words to this song. Longing for home is a natural desire. Of course, love is the motive behind this desire. The love for home and all the blessings that accompany a good home are very compelling to say the least. Home sickness, though mental, can affect us physically. Of course, the family is what most are missing. That feeling of separation and longing to be reunited causes us to say, “I want to go home.” The fact is, there are many who have no home? Home is a safe place or “a place where a person or animal can find refuge and safety or live in security” (Encarta). No home can offer the refuge and security like unto that heavenly home God has prepared (John 14:1-6). The question is, “do I desire that home? Are we homesick for that home?” Oh, give me a home where Christ is the Head. The Bible clearly states that Jesus is the head of the Church (Colossians 1:18), but what does that have to do with the home? People have a difficult time looking at things from a more spiritual mindset (Proverbs 4:8). Far too often, we find ourselves focusing upon life, and all that goes along with it, through fleshly (humanistic) eyes. Home, to the vast majority, consists of nothing more than some structure in which to live. Even the song title is asking for a home here on earth. Notice “Where the buffalo roam, where the deer and the antelope play.” Is this all that we are seeking when we say give me a home? It should be the case that when we say, “Oh give me a home where Christ is the head.” Protection and provision are expected in this type of home. David’s Psalm covers it best. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever (Psalm 23). Did you notice the provision and protection the Lord delivered to David? Because of this understanding David could say, “I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into house of the Lord” (Psalm the 122:1). --article continued on page 2-- ELDERS Mike Childers..............397-6453 Dennis Hallmark .........255-5557 Mark Hitt.....................322-0917 Bobby Lindley.............260-9193 DEACONS Wade Bryan.................419-5552 William Harris.............416-8149 Ricky Lindsey .............844-9944 Jeff Mansel..................871-0357 Jimmy Spearman.........840-8957 Michael Wilson ...........891-0891 PREACHER Barry Kennedy ... 2. 2. Community Outreach Item: Diapers --article continued from page 1— Do we find ourselves crying out for that home? How often do we take the time to evaluate just exactly what kind of home it is for which we cry? We often emphasize how that husbands are to be the spiritual leaders of the home, physically speaking (Ephesians 5:23). That is all well and good, but is Jesus the HEAD of our home? Are we truly looking for that heavenly home? Oh, give me a home where my soul will not roam. God has promised life more abundantly to those who are faithful to Him (John 10:10). Christians are added to the house of God (Acts 2:47) which is the church of God (1Timothy 3:15). God has put forth every effort to ensure our security in His home. No, it does not mean that the Lord has installed deadbolt locks and motion detecting alarms, but He has offered a home of safety in Heaven. If we take to heart what God is offering, we will not be so easily turned aside. Are we truly longing for that home today? What are we doing today to make Heaven our eternal HOME? Do we truly desire that home? God wants all of us to be with Him for all eternity and if that were not enough, He also promises that it is a land of beauty and rest (Hebrews 4:9; Revelation 20). Are we singing, “Oh Give Me A Home?” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Summer Outreach Project We are filling 100 backpacks with school supplies for local schools.
