Prior to Microsoft, he co-founded and sold a collaboration software company and helped design a SharePoint-like collaboration platform at another startup. He is the co-author of a book on Microsoft SharePoint 2010 and three books on software configuration management.

- Share story of xango, insistence on saving money versus going with a known solution. Wanted to save time and money, the allure of the fast talking vendor solution that could solve all problems. Failure to launch 3 times, delaying the project and, ultimately, went back to the proven technology which cost more than originally estimated due to the mistakes, plus the additional time and lost face with customers and internal organizations, and the CIO was fired.Line of business app integration (talked with a friend who works for a paper mill company, shades of Dundermifflin, who was telling me about the proprietary systems that run their mills worldwide, and wanting to add an interface to these tools within sharepoint. They worked with the software team from their vendor to help integrate rather than develop a simple view into the tool without any value add, without thinking about the user experience and business capability)
