Wise Power Use Expo Set for November 3rd
Los Angeles, CA. October 1, 2010 - Following up on last year’s standing room only Wise Water Use Expo, the
Mar Vista Community Council Green Committee announces The Wise Power Use Expo. This event is geared
toward helping people learn about the numerous ways they can reduce their use of electricity or switch to clean
fuels like solar power.
Councilman Bill Rosendahl will kick off the Wise Power Use Expo event which will be held on November 3,
2010 in the gymnasium at the Solar Powered - Windward School at 11350 Palms Avenue in Mar Vista. Doors
will open at 6:30 for attendees to meet local experts who will be on hand to provide information on energy
saving solutions with special discounts. The speakers will go on at 7:30. Attendees will learn easy ways to save
electricity and money in their homes and businesses. Guest speakers will explain how to lower electrical use and
what options are available for renewable energy. The evening will include many exciting energy conservation
raffle items for attendees, including a whole house energy audit, valued at $499 and a $1,000 credit toward solar
panels.
Chris Paine, director of "Revenge of the Electric Car"(Spring, 2011) and co-founder the media project
"Counter-Spill", will share how he transformed an original Mid 20th Century Modern home into Marrakesh
House - a model for sustainable living in the 21st century.
Kevin O’Donnell, from Al Gore’s The Climate Project, will speak to why the world needs to get off coal and
convert to renewable energy.
Nancy Barba, of Bevilacqua-Knight, Inc. (BKi) and Sustainable Works, will provide easy changes that
individuals can make in their homes and businesses to reduce electricity consumption as well as the cost and the
expected payback of roof-top solar.
Andre Villasenor, the Southern California Sustainability Coordinator from the EPA, will explain what it means
for Mar Vista and other neighborhoods to be designated as an EPA Green Power Community.
The Wise Power Use Expo will be held in the gymnasium at Windward School 11350 Palms Avenue in Mar
Vista. Windward is one of the first schools in California to receive a LEED (Leadership in energy and
