Nevertheless, the main reason for heat leakage is infrared radiation, which accounts for 70% of the
leakage To prevent this problem, special energy-efficient glass should be applied. One of the surfaces of
such glass has a low-emission coating. Glass, as any non-conductor, possesses great emissive capacity E
(common glass has E = approximately 0,83) in comparison with metals. The less E glass has, the better its
energy-efficient properties are, as well as its capacity to reflect heat radiation back into the house.
Taking this information into account, specialists have become skilled at spreading a covering which ensures
heat radiation up to 0.04 by means of magnetron deposition over the glass. This covering is a
semitransparent layer of metals (mainly silver) with the system of antireflection coatings of various oxides
(BiO2, TiO2, SiO2). Glass with such an optically low-emission composition reflects over 90% of the heat
energy that is lost through the window back into the house. Thus, the warmth from electrical appliances
cannot go out through the window due to low radiating capacity of the covering and has to come back into
the house. Solar short-wave radiation in the visible range (wavelength is from 380 to 780 nm) freely
penetrate into the house from the outside. Thus, solar energy easily penetrates into the house.
