Healthcare workers involved in treating and caring for people injured or
sick still because the patient will be exposed to biological aerosols capable
of transmitting diseases. These diseases, which can be caused by a range of
microorganisms, can pose significant risks to life and health surgical face
masks are wont to cover the mouth and Nose by doctors and other
healthcare workers. It reduces the danger of contaminations from secretion
of the mouth and nose operational room or clinics. It’s purposely to be worn
by health care professionals during surgery and at same time to catch the
bacteria shed in liquid droplets and aerosols from the wearer’s mouth and
nose.

Surgical face masks were originally developed to contain and filter droplets
containing microorganisms that are liberation from the mouth and
nasopharynx of healthcare workers during surgery, thereby providing
protection for the patient. However, there are several ways during which
surgical face masks contaminate the surgical wound. For instance, because
of poor tying of surgical masks and incorrectly worn surgical face masks
causes leaking of air from the side of the surgical face mask.

Uses
Facemasks help limit the spread of germs. When someone talks, coughs, or
sneezes they'll release tiny drops into the air which will infect others. If
someone is ill a face masks can reduce the amount of germs that the
wearer releases and may protect people from becoming sick. A face mask
also protects the wearer’s nose and mouth from splashes or sprays of body
fluids.

These circumstances at the side of the mass use of masks by medical
examiners, essential service companies, cleaners, supermarkets and people
in food supply, security, transport, etc., have caused a shortage, leading
the authorities in several countries to confiscate PPE and medical masks,
among other means, that are wont to fight the disease. Furthermore, this
example is predicted to persist for a few time, since the WHO itself
estimates that approximately 89 million medical masks are needed monthly
to respond to COVID-19.

Manufacturing Process
The generally rectangular sheet of filter material features a generally
straight top edge, and a pair of generally straight side edges shorter than
the highest edge and defining respective top corners with the highest edge.
There’s a fold line midway between the side edges extending
perpendicularly to the highest edge. The fold line extends from the highest
edge, preferably a distance but the length of the side edges to a termination
point. The widely rectangular sheet features a bottom edge which features a
configuration symmetrical on either side of the fold line.

www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org
In one form, the sheet bottom edge features a pair of side portions which
define respective bottom corners with the side edges, and which extend
generally parallel to the highest edge a distance from rock bottom corners to
respective transition points. Between these two transition points and
therefore the termination point of the fold line there's a generally triangular
cutout. Thus, beginning at the transition points, rock bottom edge includes
a pair of further portions extending from the respective transition points in
directions generally angled upwardly towards the highest edge to the fold
line termination point. Preferably, these further portions extending from the
transition points are arcade in configuration, convex with regard to the
fabric which remains after the cutout.

The sheet is laterally folded on the fold line. By ultrasonic bonding, for instance ,
rock bottom edge side portions are joined to every other and therefore the bottom
edge further portions on either side of the fold line are joined to every other such
a mask body is made . The mask body is actually flat for storage and, when
unfolded, has a gap defined by the sheet top and side edges and size to hide the
nose and mouth of a wearer. A mask teeing device, like a pair of conventional
ties, is attached to the corners.

When placed over the mouth and nose of the wearer, the side edges provide a
comparatively flat sealing surface to the wearer's face, extending under the chin,
while the highest edge provides a comparatively flat sealing surface across the
face and nose of the wearer. Preferably, a standard malleable nose-piece, like a
wire or strip of metal, extends adjacent the highest edge for maintaining the
highest come on conformity with the form of the wearer's nose.

Types of Surgical Masks
Different types of surgical masks are available in the India surgical masks
market based on their usage. According to the Journal of Academia and
Industrial Research (JAIR), surgical masks are made up of polypropylene
with 20 grams per square meter (gsm) made using spun-bond technology
and 25 gsm polypropylene nonwoven sheet made using melt-blown
technology. These masks have different layers such as 1 ply, 2 ply, 3 ply,
and 4 ply, depending upon the number of different layers used for better
bacterial and particulate filtrations.
The outer layer is made of hydrophobic material, whereas the inner layer is
made of hydrophilic material to absorb the bodily fluids spurted out during
sneeze, thereby trapping the microbes inside. The material used for making
surgical masks should have minimum 80% of bacterial filtration efficiency
and particle filtration efficiency. Surgical masks can be categorized into the
following, based on the number of layers used:

fluids shed from the wearer, a melt-blown filter integrated middle layer, and
an outer hydrophobic layer, which repels water
4 Ply: This surgical mask is made of four layers of polypropylene melt-
blown nonwoven fabric similar to 3 ply surgical masks with an extra layer
of activated carbon fabric.
Projects:- Project Reports & Profiles
Factors such as developments in nonwovens production technology and
rise in focus toward preventing hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) drive the
India surgical masks market growth. Moreover, a noteworthy increase in
number of surgeries over the past few years have greatly contributed
toward the growth of the India surgical masks market.
Market Outlook
www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org
Indian Market of Disposable Surgical Masks
Surgical masks are disposable devices that cover the mouth and nose during
medical procedures. They prevent the spread of infection between diseased
and healthy population. Surgical masks are typically used in a health facility
(hospitals, emergency departments, out-patient facilities, residential care
facilities, emergency medical services) and home health care delivery. The
India surgical mask market was valued at $71.73 million in 2019, and is
expected to reach $157.13 million by 2027, registering a CAGR of 10.3%
from 2020 to 2027.
www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org
This rate of growth is especially attributed to number of surgical procedures
performed in India annually. The country is currently facing a multifaceted
burden of infectious disease, neonatal disease, non-communicable diseases,
maternal disease, and injuries. The necessity for surgical products and
services in India is predicted to still rise noticeably from now until 2030.
Related Projects: - Healthcare and Medical Businesses
Thus, this overall increase within the number of surgical procedures
performed in India is projected to bolster the demand for surgical products
like masks and gloves within the years to return, ultimately driving the
growth of the India surgical masks market. Likewise, surgical masks, are
being widely wont to prevent the transmission of infections and maintain
hygiene, as they're sterile, repellant, and don't absorb any bacteria &
viruses.
Patients and healthcare professionals are vulnerable to hospital-acquired
infections (HAIs) during medical treatments during a health facility. Thus,
this increase in HAIs is further supplementing the India surgical masks
market growth.
Projects:- Project Reports & Profiles
Furthermore, the recent outbreak of COVID-19 within the country, has led
to an abrupt increase in demand for surgical masks by the healthcare
workers and therefore the general population. Because the government
made it mandatory to wear masks publicly spaces, the panic buying
behavior of the population, resulted in shortage of surgical masks within the
month of March, 2020. Because the use of masks is an efficient measure in
preventing and controlling the infection, which may restrict the spread of
respiratory viral diseases, including COVID-19, the demand continues to
witness high rise throughout the COVID-19 pandemic phase.
www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org
www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org
Thus, this surge in pandemics or epidemics is anticipated to spice up the
demand for surgical masks within the country. The basic surgical masks
segment is anticipated to garner the most important share within the India
surgical mask market throughout the forecast period, because of easy
availability and high demand for these masks within the healthcare
industry. The essential surgical mask segment is expected to grow at the
very best rate of 13.0% from 2020 to 2027.

Global Market of Disposable Surgical Masks
Advancements within the field of medical surgery and diagnosis and
increase within the number of the medical device manufacturing companies
at the side of the frequent outbreak of epidemics are the most important
factors driving the growth of the market. Increase within the adoption of
surgical mask among general population and therefore the rising
advancements within the field of medical surgery is about to further
enhance the overall market demand of surgical mask.

According to WHO, currently, more than 4.2 million people worldwide are
infected with Corona (COVID-19). Within the context of the novel coronavirus
(2019-nCoV) outbreak, the world Health Organization recommends the
utilization of masks in home and health care settings. This successively
increases demand for surgical marks. Increase in elderly population, increase in
adoption of surgical mask within the general population and surge in prevalence
of contagious and chronic diseases such as tuberculosis and asthma alongside
the rise within the number of medical device manufacturing companies and
rapid developments in nonwovens production technology is poised to contribute
within the growth of the surgical mask market. Increasing focus toward
preventing hospital-acquired infections and improvement in healthcare
infrastructure & service also are a number of the factors that are contributing
within the growth of the surgical mask market.

  • 2. www.entrepreneurindia.co Introduction www.niir.org The face mask having a body portion adapted to cover the nose and mouth and having means to secure said body portion over the nose and mouth, said body portion comprising a filtration medium comprising a nonwoven fabric formed of continuous thermoplastic filaments having a length of at least 2.5 inches and a diameter of from 14 to 20 microns, the filaments lying generally in planes perpendicular to the direction of the flow of air through the mask, the filtration fabric having a weight of from 47 to 61 gsm and having a thickness of from 0.01 to 0.02 inches and a void volume of about 85 percent and being substantially free of binder, and a lightweight porous nonwoven facing fabric on each major side of said filtration medium. Projects:- Project Reports & Profiles
  • 3. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org Healthcare workers involved in treating and caring for people injured or sick still because the patient will be exposed to biological aerosols capable of transmitting diseases. These diseases, which can be caused by a range of microorganisms, can pose significant risks to life and health surgical face masks are wont to cover the mouth and Nose by doctors and other healthcare workers. It reduces the danger of contaminations from secretion of the mouth and nose operational room or clinics. It’s purposely to be worn by health care professionals during surgery and at same time to catch the bacteria shed in liquid droplets and aerosols from the wearer’s mouth and nose. Related Projects:- Disposable Surgical Masks
  • 4. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org Surgical face masks were originally developed to contain and filter droplets containing microorganisms that are liberation from the mouth and nasopharynx of healthcare workers during surgery, thereby providing protection for the patient. However, there are several ways during which surgical face masks contaminate the surgical wound. For instance, because of poor tying of surgical masks and incorrectly worn surgical face masks causes leaking of air from the side of the surgical face mask. • 5. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org Uses Facemasks help limit the spread of germs. When someone talks, coughs, or sneezes they'll release tiny drops into the air which will infect others. If someone is ill a face masks can reduce the amount of germs that the wearer releases and may protect people from becoming sick. A face mask also protects the wearer’s nose and mouth from splashes or sprays of body fluids. Projects:- Project Reports & Profiles
  • 6. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org These circumstances at the side of the mass use of masks by medical examiners, essential service companies, cleaners, supermarkets and people in food supply, security, transport, etc., have caused a shortage, leading the authorities in several countries to confiscate PPE and medical masks, among other means, that are wont to fight the disease. Furthermore, this example is predicted to persist for a few time, since the WHO itself estimates that approximately 89 million medical masks are needed monthly to respond to COVID-19. Related Videos: - Manufacturing of Medical Disposable Face Masks.
  • 7. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org Manufacturing Process The generally rectangular sheet of filter material features a generally straight top edge, and a pair of generally straight side edges shorter than the highest edge and defining respective top corners with the highest edge. There’s a fold line midway between the side edges extending perpendicularly to the highest edge. The fold line extends from the highest edge, preferably a distance but the length of the side edges to a termination point. The widely rectangular sheet features a bottom edge which features a configuration symmetrical on either side of the fold line. Related Projects:- Surgical, Medical Plastics, Medical Disposables, Disposable Medical Products used in Hospitals
  • 8. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org In one form, the sheet bottom edge features a pair of side portions which define respective bottom corners with the side edges, and which extend generally parallel to the highest edge a distance from rock bottom corners to respective transition points. Between these two transition points and therefore the termination point of the fold line there's a generally triangular cutout. Thus, beginning at the transition points, rock bottom edge includes a pair of further portions extending from the respective transition points in directions generally angled upwardly towards the highest edge to the fold line termination point. Preferably, these further portions extending from the transition points are arcade in configuration, convex with regard to the fabric which remains after the cutout. Related Books: - Handbook on Medical and Surgical Disposable Products
  • 9. The sheet is laterally folded on the fold line. By ultrasonic bonding, for instance , rock bottom edge side portions are joined to every other and therefore the bottom edge further portions on either side of the fold line are joined to every other such a mask body is made . The mask body is actually flat for storage and, when unfolded, has a gap defined by the sheet top and side edges and size to hide the nose and mouth of a wearer. A mask teeing device, like a pair of conventional ties, is attached to the corners. Related Video: - Production of Disposable Surgical and Medical Face Mask When placed over the mouth and nose of the wearer, the side edges provide a comparatively flat sealing surface to the wearer's face, extending under the chin, while the highest edge provides a comparatively flat sealing surface across the face and nose of the wearer. Preferably, a standard malleable nose-piece, like a wire or strip of metal, extends adjacent the highest edge for maintaining the highest come on conformity with the form of the wearer's nose. • 10. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org Types of Surgical Masks Different types of surgical masks are available in the India surgical masks market based on their usage. According to the Journal of Academia and Industrial Research (JAIR), surgical masks are made up of polypropylene with 20 grams per square meter (gsm) made using spun-bond technology and 25 gsm polypropylene nonwoven sheet made using melt-blown technology. These masks have different layers such as 1 ply, 2 ply, 3 ply, and 4 ply, depending upon the number of different layers used for better bacterial and particulate filtrations.
  • 11. The outer layer is made of hydrophobic material, whereas the inner layer is made of hydrophilic material to absorb the bodily fluids spurted out during sneeze, thereby trapping the microbes inside. The material used for making surgical masks should have minimum 80% of bacterial filtration efficiency and particle filtration efficiency. Surgical masks can be categorized into the following, based on the number of layers used: Related Projects:- Disposable Products and Projects from Paper, Plastic, Thermocol, Banana Leaves (Use and Throw Items, Throwing Item, Single Use Items, Disposable Take-Away Packaging, Disposable Food Packaging, Disposable Items Manufacturing) 1 Ply: Single ply refers to a surgical mask made only of a single layer of polypropylene fabric 2 Ply: This mask consists of two layers of polypropylene spun-bound fabric with an external hydrophobic layer and an inner hydrophilic layer www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org
  • 12. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org 3 Ply: This mask consists of three layers of polypropylene melt-blown nonwoven fabric, including a hydrophilic inner layer for absorbing the fluids shed from the wearer, a melt-blown filter integrated middle layer, and an outer hydrophobic layer, which repels water 4 Ply: This surgical mask is made of four layers of polypropylene melt- blown nonwoven fabric similar to 3 ply surgical masks with an extra layer of activated carbon fabric. Projects:- Project Reports & Profiles Factors such as developments in nonwovens production technology and rise in focus toward preventing hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) drive the India surgical masks market growth. Moreover, a noteworthy increase in number of surgeries over the past few years have greatly contributed toward the growth of the India surgical masks market.
  • 13. Market Outlook www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org Indian Market of Disposable Surgical Masks Surgical masks are disposable devices that cover the mouth and nose during medical procedures. They prevent the spread of infection between diseased and healthy population. Surgical masks are typically used in a health facility (hospitals, emergency departments, out-patient facilities, residential care facilities, emergency medical services) and home health care delivery. The India surgical mask market was valued at $71.73 million in 2019, and is expected to reach $157.13 million by 2027, registering a CAGR of 10.3% from 2020 to 2027.
  • 14. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org This rate of growth is especially attributed to number of surgical procedures performed in India annually. Likewise, surgical masks, are being widely wont to prevent the transmission of infections and maintain hygiene, as they're sterile, repellant, and don't absorb any bacteria & viruses.
  • 15. Patients and healthcare professionals are vulnerable to hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) during medical treatments during a health facility. Thus, this increase in HAIs is further supplementing the India surgical masks market growth. Projects:- Project Reports & Profiles Furthermore, the recent outbreak of COVID-19 within the country, has led to an abrupt increase in demand for surgical masks by the healthcare workers and therefore the general population. Because the government made it mandatory to wear masks publicly spaces, the panic buying behavior of the population, resulted in shortage of surgical masks within the month of March, 2020. Because the use of masks is an efficient measure in preventing and controlling the infection, which may restrict the spread of respiratory viral diseases, including COVID-19, the demand continues to witness high rise throughout the COVID-19 pandemic phase. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org
  • 16. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org Thus, this surge in pandemics or epidemics is anticipated to spice up the demand for surgical masks within the country. The basic surgical masks segment is anticipated to garner the most important share within the India surgical mask market throughout the forecast period, because of easy availability and high demand for these masks within the healthcare industry.
