Practices of Parent/Family Engagement in Beaumont Independent School District The following activities are promising practices that can be utilized at the district and/or campus level to ensure parental involvement success! Practical Parent Education Modules Research-based modules designed to give parent facilitators, teachers, and administrators tools to work with families Family Fun and Fitness Provides families with games, exercise videos, and exercise equipment to encourage and guide families to fitness, nutrition, and health to combat obesity. Parent Parties Designed to promote family engagement by using numerous games and activities as well as an innovative approach to present parent education in a group setting. The key is no more meetings, but a fun parent party. Family Night Out: A Night of TAKS and Touchdowns Families and football go had in had in Southeast Texas. It’s double take when families are invited to a brief overview of TAKS expectations before boarding school buses to attend a football game against team rivals. T-shirts are also provided for participants by school business partners who fully support the school’s efforts to engage parents. Parent Goals Night Is an opportunity for campuses to share specific goals to assist in student success as well as provide parents with an opportunity to dialogue with staff. Walk This Way To Student Success Walking as an exercise from the neighborhood school to the park is used to encourage parent participation while providing parents with strategies for student success in learning Education Summit Is our district’s most successful event for ensuring that parents, family, community members, district and school staff engage in a day’s event of a state of the district address, breakout sessions, job fair, exhibit hall, entertainment and more Is The Village Working? It Takes A Village is centered around families and community members collaborating and focusing on the child. Guest panelist including community leaders and clergy unite to ensure that the mission is clear and all respond to the, “Is The Village Working?” “ Who’s Who In Your School” (Parent Involvement Round Table) Parents are invited to the campus to meet, greet, and ask questions of all campus stakeholders to include but not limited to principal, assistant principal, curriculum coordinator, counselor, nurse, secretary, attendance clerk, teacher, student, etc. Community Connections Is designed for parent/family and community members to collectively promote active family involvement, community support and student achievement featuring guest speakers, folkloric dancing and family fun in the park. Family Events (Reading, Math, Technology, Science, and TAKS) Are designed to bring the whole family together at a school for a night of fun, academic-based activities that everyone can enjoy and reinforce student learning. Drive By Breakfast A new and exciting way for parents to participate is through providing parents with a light continental breakfast on the go and important resources to assist with learning at home. Power Learning Game Night Is designed for families to share in electronic or board games that reinforce skills taught in school in a fun, family way with family friendly competition. Mom and Daughter Tea (Cruising on the Sea of Life and Fashion Show) Mothers and daughters take the spotlight by dressing up and coming together to enjoy spending quality time while sipping on tea, eating scones, and being motivated on important relationships. Helping Hands for Hispanics Is a Hispanic initiative mentorship program designed to assist Hispanic families and students with school success. Dinner and Theatre Affords families an opportunity to spend quality time with dinner and a live play, such as Romeo and Juliet Father and Son Banquet (Equipped for Success) Fathers lead the way along with their son in a special banquet for fathers, sons, and mentors. Motivational speakers inspire dads to take their rightful place in the home as the leader. Camp Read and Camp Math Parents read books and participate in math activities in an evening in pajamas, having snacks and learning fun. The goal is to have every camper enjoying books while having fun at the same time.
