• Hebrew means “From across”-
name given to Abraham and his
followers
• Israelites: Abraham’s grandson
Jacob renamed Israel which
means “he who has wrestled
with God”. His descendants
were called “Israelites”

(2nd to Pharoah) and was therefore able to save
his/Jacob’s family from starvation.
• Moses (1440 B.C.E.) Freed the Children of Israel
from slavery in Egypt and brought them to the
Land of Canaan.
• King David (1000 B.C.E.) United the tribes of
