2. We would be asking some general but important questions to these experts to get an
idea about the future trends and predictions for Magento eCommerce development
services.
Disclaimer: The views mentioned here may contrast with each other as all of the
Magento eCommerce experts come from different countries where trends towards
Magento website development services may differ.
Q: What expectations do you have for Magento platform and its community in 2018?
Gabriel Guarino: I’m absolutely positive about 2018. The great results shown by both,
Magento organization and community members in 2017 gives me a solid belief that
Magento will only prosper in 2018. It’s safe to say that I have high expectations from
Magento platform for the year 2018.
Paresh Sagar: It has been 10 years since Magento platform started. I’ve seen it grow in
these 10 years and feel proud to watch it reach the top. If we talk more in detail, I
believe Analytics and Big Data are going to be the highlights of this year. I wish to see a
Magento built-in mobile app that could give merchants a whole new spectrum of
business. If we talk about future predictions, I believe there would be a lot more
innovative projects related to top eCommerce trends, such as AR & VR, PWA / AMP,
personalization, chatbots, and more.
Lars Röttig: I expect there will be more pull request and contribution days in 2018. Here
in Germany, Magento had just hosted the very first contribution day in Leipzig in May of
2017. This was a really amazing experience for me as I got the chance to work with
some of the pioneering Magento eCommerce experts.
Q. What trends will reign among merchants in 2018?
Paresh Sagar: 2018 is the year of minimalism, so I believe trends would be more
towards giving a minimalist and comfortable experience to the users. A quick answer
will be Instant checkout, improved database, cache mechanism, scheduled update.
Gabriel Guarino: When we talk about Magento eCommerce development services, the
one thing that comes to my mind is Progressive Web Apps (PWAs). These are regular
3. web pages that appear to the user like native mobile apps. I hope to see a good
developer experience to customize Magento as a PWA.
Q: What will be the biggest challenge for Magento next year?
Viktor Khilupko: I guess platform development and technical stack updates would be
the 2 major challenges that Magento team developers will have to face as each major
version of Magento 2 will need an investment of time and money to keep the platform
up-to-date. If we talk about community Magento eCommerce experts, they would need
to learn new technologies related to PWAs and front-end architecture changes.
Tim Bezhashvyly: It is a tough question as every merchant is having a different goal for
their website and facing different troubles. Some are fighting tech issues while others
are involved in growing vertically rather than horizontally, then there are some working
more on marketing their Magento eCommerce website. So the one trend that will be
common for all these merchants would be becoming mobile-first and omnichannel,
simultaneously.
Paresh Sagar: Developers offering Magento eCommerce development services would
have to learn new patterns introduced by Magento 2 and also about TDD practices. For
Magento 2 platform itself, the main goal would be to beat Shopify as a solution for small
businesses. Their goal should be to become more user-friendly for the merchants who
have less or no knowledge of eCommerce development. Features like better back-end
UI/UX, easy installation and lower hardware requirements.
Q: Will we witness a full switch to the Magento 2 in 2018?
Sergey Uchuhlebov: All the major fixes to Magento 2 have already been made and all
the tests have been check marked by millions of clients. All the main modules are
already transferred to version 2. So, I believe the only merchants that will not go with
Magento 2 are the ones who either don’t have enough resources to do so or are very
well-grounded with Magento 1 and find no reason for the migration. Magento 1 will not
go all extinct in 2018, but will certainly become rare to see.
4. Lars Röttig: I think Magento 1 will still be around as some merchants won’t be having
enough resources for the switch. So even after the official end of life, Magento 1 will be
around but not very prominent.
Conclusion
So these were the predictions given by the most renowned Magento eCommerce
experts. Even after including slight contradictions, Magento seems to have a bright
future ahead. So, if you as a merchant wish to go for Magento eCommerce Platform,
you must go for the best Magento eCommerce development services for your
migration.
