Power point ecosystems

  1. 1. TERRESTRIAL ECOSYSTEMS
  2. 2. What is an ecosystem? An ecosystem is an environment where living and non-living things interact.
  3. 3. What is pollution? Pollution is the presence in or introduction into the environment of a substance which has harmful or poisonous effects.
  4. 4. What is an habitat? An habitat is the natural home or environment of an animal, plant, or other organism.
  5. 5. TUNDRA Tundra ecosystems are treeless regions found in the Arctic and on mountain tops, where the weather is cold and windy, and rainfall is scarce. The tundra lands are covered in snow for much of the year, but the summer brings bursts of wild flowers.
  6. 6. Where are the tundra ecosystems? The territories of the tundra are located in the polar regions and high latitudes, mainly in the northern hemisphere of the planet, and covers regions such as Alaska, Siberia, Iceland, the southern part of Greenland, in Europe the northern part including Russia and Scandinavia, the northern Canada, northern Antarctica, the highlands between Chile and Argentina, different subantarctic islands.
  7. 7. What is the tundra climate? Due to its altitude and proximity to the poles, the tundra's climate will remain below freezing during most of all seasons of the year, around 6 to 10 months.
  8. 8. Flora of the tundra: At such low temperatures the tundra does not have trees, but they do have plants of low dimensions and up to 400 species of different flowering vegetation. Due to the weather conditions and the low rainfall, there is a lack of decomposing organic elements that in the end are nutrients that feed the vegetation, so we can find it rather dispersed in the landscape.
  9. 9. Tundra fauna: Taking into account the climatology of the tundras, the animals have evolved towards an adaptation of a hard and cold climate. They are protected by thick layers of fat under their skin with long, thick fur. In some cases they have white fur with the intention of camouflaging themselves in the snow and being able to flee from their predators.
  10. 10. AND THIS IS MY PROJET ABOUT TERRESTRIAL ECOSYSTEMS THANK YOU FOR YOU ATTENTION BY: Alfonso Castellanos Garca.
